Westminster are talking about making more bike bays out of underutilised P&D bays. A list needs to be submitted next week so if you are aware of any areas where there are plenty of P&Ds that are half empty and there is a lack of bike spaces then please let me know ASAP.
I know I have asked this before but I just want to check there aren’t anymore you are aware of.
We’ve got to submit a list today so if you work in Westminster and have a lack of bike spaces but there are free pay and display bays then please let me know ASAP.
Mini Mo, we are dying for bike bays around Green Park tube! There are 2 on Berkeley Street, 2 on Mayfair Place and one on Stratton Street (currently suspended), but these bays are all full by 0830 and after that it’s off to Bruton Lane where there is a huge bay but that too is full by 0900. About 40 - 50 bikes used to park on various bits of private property in Bruton Lane but they have since put up notices threatening to clamp the bikes if we park there again (£100 release) which of course means coming in even earlier to get into the bays.
Conversley there are always free residents’ bays and parking meters all along Berkeley St, Mayfair Place and Stratton St. The bike bay on Stratton Street could easily be extended to accommodate another 10 bikes at a cost of just one residents’ parking space.
Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help this crusade! and good on you for flying the two-wheeled flag in Westminster.
Have to agree with David about Green Park/Mayfair area, but wanted to add Cleveland Street/Great Portland St area too…again the bays are pretty much full by 8.30-9.00 and for the commuting biker its murder in the morning!
Sorry to wander off-topic, but j_unit, there are bays on the side roads down Riding House Street (first left off Cleveland Street, heading North) that usually have a few spaces until at least 9.30. You may need to drag the odd scooter out the way first – the area is rife with cretins who’d rather park in the middle of a bay rather than next to another bike.
