In that case they just wanna pick on you
not a good start to the year Ross, sorry to see. sucks!
they are definitely picking on you, easy work for them
Okay, read the comments that Ross has made before you reply.
He’s made it clear he has tax, insurance and MOT. If he didn’t have all three you can bet that the coppers would have taken that bike. But they didn’t, they just gave him a FPN for not displaying his tax.
So don’t go having a go if you’ve not actually read his posts.
I think that’s pretty harsh fining you for not displaying tax. I’ve never displayed my tax on all three bikes and I’ve never been called up on it. Tax disks get stolen off bikes everyone knows that.
It’s not your fault if they PNC hasn’t yet been updated to show your MOT… I don’t know the full details here but it sounds to me like they’ve just done you for the tax for the sake of it, cos you’re a young lad on a scrappy bike.
I guess it kind of makes you feel annoyed for making sure you were fully legit before you took the bike on the roads, when there’s plenty of uninsured drivers, stolen bikes, traffic offences etc going unnoticed…
Sorry buddy
There is probably a marker on the bike that sets off the ANPR system, either that or they are recognising you and just see it as an easy target. The only thing you can do is be 100% legit and ride carefully. The cops will be stopping you, just take it in your stride and remain patient. Each time your’re stopped after for a record of the stop (like a receipt). After a while the cops will stop hassling you and you can probably even ask them to have the marker removed since you’ll be able to show them a collection of needless/fruitless stops.
its a bit like when i was done (i admit it was my fault) when i was fined going over a double white line. the fuzz were trying to say i didnt have insurance as i wasnt on their database. until the other policeman realised my name had been misspelled by some twat on the database
Did you get your tax online? If so, I seem to recall there is a 15 day period of grace whilst they send you the tax disc out.

DVLA Tax Exemption
A change in the law comes into effect from 1 September 2008.
From this date, there will be an exemption from the offence in Section 33 of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 (VERA) of not displaying a valid tax disc. This will apply for the first five working days at the beginning of the month in which the tax disc commences.
It will be legal for motorists to drive or keep their vehicle on a public road without a current tax disc, for the first five working days of any month. This exemption from displaying a tax disc applies only when an application for a new disc has been made before the previous one has expired.
Motorists are advised to display the expired tax disc, however, they will be committing an offence if they continue to use or keep the vehicle on a public road without a current valid tax disc after the first five days of the month.
What is the purpose of this measure?
This is a customer service improvement measure.
It is designed to make it easier for motorists to comply with their legal responsibilities to tax their vehicle before their current disc expires.
We expect this exemption to encourage customers to take up DVLA’s Electronic Vehicle Licensing (EVL) service. Currently, many customers abandon their online or telephone applications when they realise that their new tax disc may arrive after their current one has expired.
The five day exemption will allow customers to use EVL up until the last day of the month, knowing they can legally continue to use their vehicle whilst awaiting the delivery of the new tax disc.
When does this exemption come into force?
The change in the law comes into effect from 1 September 2008.
What happens if the disc doesn’t arrive within the 5 day exemption period?
In the event that the tax disc does not arrive, customers should call DVLA on 0870 850 4444. A duplicate tax disc will then be issued free of charge.
Can customers use vehicles on the public road if waiting for a duplicate tax disc to arrive?
No. The exemption only applies when waiting for the original tax disc to arrive. The exemption only covers the first five working days following the original application. Motorists will be committing an offence if they continue to use or keep the vehicle on a public road.
Can motorists drive untaxed for five days?
No. The exemption from displaying a tax disc only applies when an application for a new disc has been made before the previous one has expired. If no application has been made, then the vehicle will be unlicensed and this exemption will not apply.
Does this mean that customers who apply before the end of the month will qualify for the exemption and will not be committing an offence?
Yes. Customers who need a tax disc from 1st September must apply before the current tax disc expires to qualify for the exemption.
Does this exemption apply to applications made at by post?
Yes. However, the exemption will only apply if an application for a new tax disc has been made before the previous tax disc/SORN has expired.
Does this exemption apply to applications made in person at a Post Office® branch or DVLA Local Office?
Yes, but a the tax disc is handed to the customer at the point of sale when a vehicle is taxed at a Post Office or DVLA local office, the exemption is not relevant in these circumstances as the customer will already have the new disc.
Will customers applying for a tax disc during a 12month SORN period qualify for the exemption?
Yes. When a vehicle is taxed during a 12month period of SORN, that SORN is no longer in force from the time the vehicle is taxed. So the five day exemption will apply in this scenario.
Will customers making a SORN be able to continue driving for 5 days?
No. Once keepers have made a SORN on a vehicle, the vehicle must be kept off the public road.
Will this exemption just encourage people to drive untaxed vehicles? Will this measure increase time consuming checks for the police?
The police already check vehicles not displaying valid tax discs. If a tax disc has not been applied for, the police may decide to take action. This exemption will not add any further burden to the police.
Relicensing from 5th of Month - Why has this been introduced?
Feedback from the motoring public has shown an increasing demand for motorists to be allowed to tax their vehicles from earlier in the month. Allowing customers to tax from the 5th of the month is a positive move in terms of customer service. This allows motorists greater flexibility when deciding when to renew their tax discs.
Will V11s be sent out earlier?
No. V11s will still be issued so that they arrive with keepers around 3 weeks before their current tax disc/SORN is due to expire.
Will V11s provide information on the revised earliest date for relicensing?
Yes. V11s will show the revised date.
When will this come into force?
Customers whose tax disc expires on 31 August will be able to renew their tax disc or SORN from 5th August. Thereafter, customers will be able to renew from the 5th of the month in which their current tax disc expires.
Will this be available via all licensing channels?
Yes, taxing from the 5th of the month will be available via EVL, Post Office® branches, and DVLA Local Offices. The Post Office and local office facilities will also be available to customers in Northern Ireland.
What happens if the 5th day falls on a Sunday or Bank Holiday?
The EVL service operates 24/7, but where a disc is bought at the Post Office, local office or postal application made, the date of processing will be the next working day.
Is there a change in the earliest date a customer can apply where there has been a break in vehicle tax/SORN?
No. If there is a break in tax, customers cannot submit their application more than 2 working days before the new tax disc is due to start.
Are there any changes to the earliest date that fleet companies can relicense their vehicles?
Yes. Fleet companies will also be able to renew their tax from the 5th day of the month in which the current tax disc expires.
Are there any changes to advanced applications for motorists going abroad?
This facility remains unchanged as two calendar months before the tax disc is due to commence
it does suck and personally think he should of just told me to get it on as i have only been on it for 4 or 5 days now.
but live and learn i guess i shouldn’t of forgotten to pack it under my seat.
When did you buy your new tax disc, and how did the previous one expire?
i got it on Monday and i bought the bike 2 or 3 weeks ago with it already run out
Did you SORN it 2 or 3 weeks ago?
not i dident as i havent got the logbook back yet
So you got off failing to display by admitting the offence of forging a tax disc with the intention to deceive which carries a very heavy prison sentence. ![]()
I would look at challenging this - you would have been fine if you had Sorned as soon as you got the logbook and then immediately taxed it, as then the previous SORN declaration would not have expired and you would have been able to access the 5 working day period of grace.
Alternatively you could have made a SORN declaration without the V5C using a Form 890.
yep exactly…though not sure if it was forging something if I own it and not sure if I was decieving as I did have a tax disc and put a copy on the bike. After the third theft of my tax disc I got fed up.
The magistrate ruled something like a conditional discharge or something…which means basically means yes I am guilty of the offence but will not be fining me because of the circumstances.
also he then asked the police officer why bother issuing a ticket like this when they knew I had a tax disc and very good reasoning for not having it displayed…who goes to their bike and makes sure there tax disc is there before riding?
Sounds like a right load of cock.
Unless you were giving him lots of back chat he should of let you off.
Fining you for not displaying something they can check you have is a waste of time.
Hope they are not all under pressure to start issuing fines now.
What reason did they give you for the pull?
The anpr said I wasn’t insured taxed or have mot
There’s probably a performance monitor on the ANPR being triggered so that the powers that be can check to see an offence was found and dealt with. A tick in the box to keep the stats in the black…
Unlucky blud… it’s because it’s transport police otherwise you would have been fine.
