Well I couldnt do it...I had to have a go

took the R1 out for a spin…bloody hell its cold…did about 15 miles thats all but boy it felt good…

looking for a new car but just cant get into it as I still want to ride bikes…took a Jaguar xf out for a spin and it was a nice car but just didnt float my boat at all…no car does at the moment…

ooh what to do…I dont know

Not long back from a 4hr ride myself, and yep it was a tad chilly.

Also down the lanes it was still really icy so quite a bit of round corners sideways action. Did an hour or so of green laning as well, crunchy on the top and bloomin muddy underneath but good fun all the same.

I’m in the same boat as you, I have to replace my car in Feb, business lease hire up, but I just can’t get excited about any car out there at the moment.

Trouble is I hardly use the car, maybe once a week but I do need one. Just going to have to bite the bullet and start roaming around the dealerships and see what’s out there.

yes I have a car and a truck and i just cant get into any car…will have to work on this…

It is hellish cold out, but worth it, even for 15 miles! I used to be a car nut but have virtually no interest in them now: Bike’s are just so much more fun!

Having been in said position I may be of assistance. If the car is a personal purchase can I recommend a Ford Focus tdci (dont laugh because its a ford) From a drivers point of view it gives great feedback through the streering when put on sport setting.

It has a great diesel engine that performs like a petrol does (in my opinion better) I did once own a petrol so I know.

Up until 3 months ago I had 3 Land Rover 90’s all of which were modified to various degrees for off road use.

Got rid of 2 just got the one that’s prepped fro green lanes left but I think that will be gone soon as I much prefer going out on the bike.

Good work taking the R1 out for a spin  that’s awesome progress bet you felt on top of the world… look at cars as being the means to an end - you need transport so use the car; take the bike out a bit longer each time til you can handle it full on, because you WILL get there. We’re coming down to see you again when the weather is a tad warmer:). Got any new dance moves?? Q

its causing me a lot of trouble here, dad having a go at me, girlfriend not happy with me…am in big ****…

Good work fella! Sod everyone else, if you want to get back on the bike do it! However I’m not sure I’ll be that brave when the time comes to have that conversation with the wife…

How about a compromise?

Colin Chapman said the Lotus Seven was a “four wheeled motorcycle”.

O.K., it’s not quite got the er, whatever it is that motor cycle have, but it does have that same immediacy and contact with the world at large, and sure demands you pay attention.

Oh, and you get to wear your expensive m/c clothing when it rains.

Yeah have to agree - I think they are called caterhams now - it was the car patrick mcgoohan drove in the prisoner - although if you crashed in one you’d probably be in even more of the **** than you would be on a motorcycle. . .

I cant drive a really fast car, i get into a lot of trouble, i live in a smallish town with a smallish population and a very nosey police force…they all know me, on the bike I drive away from here, in the car they can see who it is…they spend their life chasing me I think…so am afriad anything with speed is totally out…

Mind you the new 3 litre diesel xfisnt slow by any means but its not like my old xkr with 400 bhp…that was a naughty car.

Yes I am with you john, but luckily for me I am not married, I have a girlfriend and whilst she is very important to me, so too are my bikes…so whilst i will sell the R1 in the new year I am not going to stop riding completely…just not as intensely as I was…maybe a few hundred miles in a year instead of 15 or 20,000 miles…ho hum…
