I was loading a ship in Tilbury today and looking at the stowage plan, I realized we were expecting 2 passengers on board with a bike, bound to Buenos Aires, Argentina They turned up on time and I met up with them, introduced them to the Capt and the rest of the crew and got the deck waiter to show him and his wife to their cabin. We got the bike on board and I made sure it was lashed securely and stowed in a safe position out of reach from other moving cargo. We then sat down for lunch and had a long chat and they told me their intention is to travel 9 months from coast to coast all across South America, Honduras and Venezuela, WOW I thought. Their bike is a Yamaha Tenere’ XT600, kitted similarly to one of those Paris / Dakar bikes. Well that is the life I thought, lucky people have the time and determination to go for 9 months across the world on a bike, but then he started telling me all of his travels, apparently he has been doing this for almost 40 years (not on this bike of course) but he told me that he went to India and was meant to be there one year but ended up staying 5 years cause he said it took him that long to manage to see all of it.
I asked him to write a travel log of his “adventure” sending me various emails and pics and promised to publish it on my website he said he would love to do that. So that will be cool. I’ll keep you advised with his reports as I get them, meantime here are a few pics of his bike after he removed the metal Touratech paniers.
