Welder Needed!

In a desperate bid to get the girlfriend off my back, ive decided to get my arse in gear and sort out my driving license…

Ive been given a car to call my own - its a classic mini! - But have just found out its failed its MOT and needs a bit of welding doing… Nothing major, just a steel plate in the boot… Even have the steel cut to size ready to weld in!!

Ive also been given the previous quote to get it towed to a garage, fixed, and towed back… Which is about the same as the car’s worth LOL :stuck_out_tongue:

So if ANYONE here knows somebody who can travel, or if youve got a bit of experience yourself, please feel free to reply or PM me!

Thanks in advance guys and Galls!

where are you based, mate?

I’ve a mate in Coulsdon that could help, he’s mobile too  pm me if you want his number

Im in Chislehurst / Bromley area… Somone who’s mobile is really what I need as the car has no MAOt at the moment!

prolly a bit far for me - if youre still stuck and cant find someone local, let me know - but looks like R1cky knows someone closer?!

Just find a girlfried who likes bikes

If you find somebody good, let me know, because my mini will need some serious TLC this winter. I’d love to fix it up myself, just don’t have a garage with electricity …

I am doing one of those ‘just a little’ jobs at the minute - bill stands at 2K so far

You dont perhaops fancy learning to weld and then coming to do mine too do you Busa ?

Im half tempted to buy some gear off Fleabay, teach myself to weld and have a crack!..

Whats the worst that could happen?! :stuck_out_tongue:

something along these lines?

Have a look at his website - Grim has been welding for 26 years  The 2k is a customer job that came in for a ‘just a little’ job :PHe doesnt do mobile though, his welding gear wouldn’t fit in a car

Theres nothing wrong with teaching yourself to weld but thin corroded steel in a car boot/adjacent fuel tank/poss; cables hiding beneath …hmm prob not the best place to start.

this is what i was thinking - prolly easier to move the car! (three-phase, cumbersome, attachments, spillages etc) lol…

Aye… and if you buy an ARC welder you’ll blow holes in the boot.

I did a welding course and a vehicle restoration course (evening classes) at walthamstow forest college. It was really good fun and can recommend it. A mini would be a perfect project to learn, but the problem is that you need a decent space with decent electricity, which I don’t have :frowning:

I’ve got the feeling mine will be like that (start as a “small job” …). It all looks alright on the surface except from the odd spot here and there, but I have a feeling once I’ll start to poke it it’ll just fall to pieces.
I’d love to get a professional job done, but looking at your work, I doubt I could afford it

As I see it, its failed its MOT once, so im just stretching its life expectancy a few years…

I plan to -de-rust/ fill and paint all the rust patches, of which there arnt actually that many, then with a few minor (Cheapish) tweaks have a look at the engine…

Then a full paint job!.. with this as my planned finish and inspiration!

But this is my planned method!!

It’s just occurred to me that Tiggi and miggy ought to be welders with names like those
