A woman I know has really been on my case recently to buy a car. I have not bothered replacing my car since it was stolen in July as I wasn’t using it a great deal anyway and I can use wifeys car when needs must.
Anyway I asked her why she was suddenly on my case about getting a car, to which I get the chilling response, “Because I have seen you die”. Christ that freaked me out, let me tell you and I am usually the unfreakable; not superstitous, religious, don’t believe in ghosts, etc. At odds with this however, I do have a strong sense of fate, but fate that is brought about by the consequences of my own actions, not some celestial predetermination. The fate of consequences, I sometimes refer to it as. Well this woman has a reputation for getting things right, which I have always put down to a mix of luck, logic and ambiguity providing a suitable result.
So I tried to joke it off , which just wound her up and had so forced the conversation to something lighter in order to get off the subject of my foreseen doom.
Anyway, I thought I would mention this here to see what people thought; I am pretty sure it is not going to change anything. I like riding my bike and it is part of what makes me who I am. Stopping riding a bike will mean that I actually loose part of myself, that element that enjoys the risk, believes that he can manage them, that I can direct my own future and shouldn’t be afraid of what might not become.
I think it is a fairly human response to be at least a little freaked out by things like this, but that isn’t based on any level on intellect or reasoning.
You have to do your best to ignore it . . . but just for the record perhaps give us the detail on what she fore-saw??
If it’s the ‘fate of consequence’ then it’s up to you! Try to imagine the worst case (or really bad) scenario and see how you’d feel about it. If you think you might be sat there upset that the old lady was right, then that’s a pretty bad way to live your life, or worse that some randoms on an internet forum told you to ignore her.
However, if you would put it down to ‘sh!t happens’ then carry on!
Well if you gonna go, why not do it whilst doing what you enjoy…
Would be really sad being nocked over by a bus or stabbed by a stranger for no reason…
