Personally I think full leathers look a bit odd in most social situations/venues - don’t get me wrong - two piece or full leathers look great on the bike - and fine at the Ace or in the bike shop where it’s normal - but I reckon it does look a bit weird squeaking about head to toe in leathers in situations like the pub*, cinema, or going shopping - e.g. looking like a refugee from a racetrack On the other hand a bike jacket (which has become a fashion item in it’s own right) and a pair of textile trousers looks pretty unobtrusive and casual - and is more comfortable - in addition if I’m meeting up at a mates house before I go out i’ll bring some denim jeans with me and change out of the leathers/textiles into them before we go out. *(unless your on a ride out with your biking mates and stop off at a pub - that looks normal - on the other hand if your with people dressed normally then it feels a bit odd),
PPG complimented Tim the rat’s role as your Avatar (that’s when you mentioned his name) - i’ll be lookin out for a big SV with Tim on the back when i’m next in town!
They didn’t give me a plaster Grimm mate - just a kind of velcro boot for support. The scars have healed up now - another month and I will hopefully get back on the bike!
A lot of people on here have suggested they’d feel a bit silly & self-concious going somewhere wearing bike gear. Most people, sensibly, seem to for a bike jacket and draggin’ jeans or similar… to those people who cotemplate wearing no bike clothes whatsoever when they go out… it’s your choice, and I respect your right to choose - but how self-concious do you think you’ll feel with an arm covered in in gravel rash, or even missing?
Absolutely spot on - watching people (tend to be couriers) riding (on the motorway!) in the summer with t-shirt and jeans and no gloves makes me wince - I’m happy to sweat in leather jacket, gloves and textiles in summer for obvious reasons.
Couldn’t tell you for sure - my 1st impression would be to say no they’re not, but when I put on a pair of normal jeans after having been wearing the Draggins for a while it’s scary how thin regular denim feels.
Draggins don’t have Kevlar all over, just on the bum and knees. Redroute have a pair called Ultimate which come with removable knee armour and more Kevlar if you want something a little more robust, not much more expensive than Draggins either. Draggin also do Kevlar liners… you wear those underneath your fave pair of regular jeans and get the best of both worlds.
Leathers are best at abrasion resistance - they’ll last a lot longer than your average textiles if you’re sliding along the road . If you’re only going a short distance from your house to say a cinema, and you’re only going on 30mph roads and you’re not likely to be going at any speed, then I wouldn’t bother with leather if I had a pair of draggin jeans… you’re not likely to be sliding too far - but you’re going to need protection in case you hit the deck…or the bonnet of a car…
