I have started to remove my chain guide … so I can clean under it … Help me I may have a problem developing…
Ah, I normally use one of these:
Or for a proper deep clean ride it down the river :Whistling:
Very true:
Very confusing for folks too.
Just lately I’ve been favouring GT85 as my weapon of choice for water displacements, rust proofings and penetratings, half the price of the blue & yellow can.
Unless I’m working on the brakes, like today, when I favours Wynn’s brake cleaner
Aw man! sorry Nums, I think its too late!!!:D:crazy:
What mileage are you professional lubbers getting out of your chains?

You must get through crates of WD40 since you got that cheap Chinese sat-nav… :Whistling:
I can see why you’re asking the question FrankStan… the US forums are full of guys who claim to be getting good results with WD40. I suppose with modern chain technology, the grease is stored within the links, so really what is being sprayed on a chain to ‘lubricate’ it is mainly just a rust inhibitor and mild lubrication for the rollers. They say one of the positives of using WD40 to lube is that all the road dust and crud doesn’t stick to it, unlike with ‘heavier’ lubes.
I could imagine it works well enough if used in a dry climate and is applied religiously after every ride or two, but not so sure that it would do the job in the UK as well. That said, loads of people wear by it for cleaning your chain, and then using a quality chain-lube to lubricate afterwards.
I’m turning over a new leaf with regard to maintaining my bike… just bought a 4L bottle of Paraffin from B&Q for the cleaning, and a can of Wurth Dry Chain Lube for the lubrication side.
Anyone use the Wurth lube? I’ve heard mixed reviews, but am fed up with having to remove gunk from the rear of my bike.

Used and abused but regularly and properly lubed the Bonne’ had a DID 525 VX Black & Gold X-ring chain & TechCorp sprockets with 20,000 miles service on 'em, all in a very serviceable condition too. In my experience the sprockets wear out before the chains, I’d estimate it would have been good to 30,000.
Over 30K before the front sprocket gave up the ghost, chain was fine.
thanks again guys! and @londonBiker, I love your suggestion I will try at some point to clean it the proper way and only then oil it!
If I was you I would try the Motul Chain Lube
