Waterproof ?

Ok, I’ve tried Belstaff waxed cotton, Sunstuff oiled cotton, so called dry as a bone textile waterproof jacket, and as yet nothing keeps me totally dry. Especially tops of the arms and shoulders. Fair enough it’s taken a huge downpour for each one to fail to keep the water out, but fail they have.

So over to you London Bikers, what should I spend my hard earned cash on next in my quest for dry biking ?

A ticket to sunny southern Spain?

a Ford Fiesta? :hehe:

Don’t go out when it rains.:stuck_out_tongue:

Take a deep breath . . . .

Rukka

I have an Armax suit and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Extremely comfortable, well designed and 100% waterproof - even in a total deluge.

F*****g expensive though!

“Waterproof” is one of those portable words that commonly means one thing to a clothing manufacturer and something else to the user.

Unless your lucky or spend very big bucks, it means either naff all or borrocks.

+1 and unlike most other textiles suits the goretex is bonded to the outer shell, which means it does soak up the water and dries a lot quicker. Compared to the regular construction of outer shell, waterproof membrane and inner shell.

Well worth the money.

i got set of jacket and trousers off a fella i know who worked for the council, no logos just dark blue in colour, hydra-flex there called or summit, there strictly waterprrofs to go over jeans or leathers etc, and they have never let me down!

makin go with teh jacket and some frank thomas overtrousers, i wear them all day tho working, they get a bit hot!

Rukka…are pukka…but i just dont have the cash!!

er… No! :D:P:hehe:

Spada one or two piece oversuit, around £40 works a treat. More importantly the jacket has a high tight collar. For a bit more warmth and basic armour though no back protection included, a pocket is waiting to be filled. Wait for the next Lidl sale and splash out £110 on their waterproof suit with detachable thermal linings, a wash in Nickwax makes this more than impressive and winter warm.

Have you tried any of the Hein Gericke Gore-tex range? Some good deals can be had when their sales are on. The jacket and trousers I bought from them haven’t let a drop in yet(had them the last year) and quality is good

dainese gortex

I know, I know! But it does what it says on the tin

A long time ago I bought a pair of army surplus waterproof over trousers - green camo- looked horrible, but, they worked and lasted a long time - about a fiver at the time too - still looking for anything that good

anything which has the GORETEX name on it will work - absolutely top stuff, never fails. Expensive but definitely worthwhile:)

When goretex first came out, the dealers that used to sell it called it leaktex. When the first jackets came out made of the stuff had a lifetime guarantee, I just used to take it back every couple of years, and they either sent it away to be re-proofed or gave me another jacket. Did that for about 10 years!

At the moment I used over trousers, as a bit a plastic seems to work a lot better than any other material, but yes, they do make you hot.

I have got bering austral gortex trousers and jacket, got all the knox armour in them and very comfy, much better than having to mess around with waterproofs to put over your normal stuff and best thing about gortex is it’s breathable  I tested this kit out fully on one of the Wales trips earlier this year, was peeing down on the way there and thanks to my gortex gear and waterproof sidi’s I stayed bone dry, would def recommend

Black bin bag?

Decent nylon oversuit worn over textiles should do it.

cheap xxl waterproof coat & trousers, goes over leathers & was dry (apart form gloves) in the worst of it yesterday. mind you I was going slowly in traffic, so no wind to blow the rain in.

I did laugh at the couple of people riding home in suits… :w00t:.

.

I’ve always thought of waxed/oiled cotton as showerproof rather than water proof. Anything made with Goretex or of similar technical quality is good. By way of maintaining their reliability need to wash and reproof regularly - I do mine once a year. Service your kit and your kit will do you a service.

Not enough just to be goretex though, needs to be properly constructed with welded seams. You get what you pay for. I like Rukka.

Goretex is pretty reliable, but expensive. My chest waders are goretex, and I’ve stood chest deep in water all day and stayed dry and comfortable.
