After work last night I returned to my bike to find a nice shiny 2008 1p coin on the rear seat. Didn’t think much of it at the time, but the more I think about, it the more I think it may have been marked for someone to nick it?
Am I being paranoid or is there some reasoning in my thinking. Have brought a big chain with me today just for my own piece of mind, but, to be honest, if someone wants to nick it they will anyway.
It’s the new way of joining the army… don’t get too many ‘thrupenny bits’ no more… or glass bottom tankards… Better start excercising before they real you in… it’s the new job of all those alleged ‘illegal immigrant’ traffic wardens… :P:D
I’d have a chain on it anyway… I think it’s a fairly big leap of the imagination to go from finding a coin (even if it’s a 2008 !) to seeing it as a marker…but you never know;)
might have been a marker, placed by a pikey spotter, its not been the first time theives have used a marker system, sometimes they mark walls and pavements with obscure signs after a daylight recce ready for a nighttime burglary, although a shiny penny on the seat does sound a bit obvious, just keep your eyes peeled.
It was either that (marked) - in which case attach it to something immovable with a beefy chain/or park it somewhere else with a beefy chain. Alternitavely you may have got a visit from the bike fairy!
It does sound alittle bit blatant leaving a 1p piece on your seat. You might have had some cheeky monkey placing their bag on your bike seat while they went through it and a penny dropped out or something… but still, it’s better to protect your bike in the best way you can.
I would take this as a wake up call. Have a look at your bike and where its parked, do you park in the same space everyday?
My bike was stolen from outside the security office at my work in a small bike parking area at 12 o’clock lunch time. People walking past etc, even a guy having a fag next to the guys who lifted it into the back of the van whilst the alarm was wailing.
Maybe you could park somewhere else for a while, attach your bike to something solid, cover it with a bike cover which sounds like you didnt have…
Alarm? snitcher? Rottweiler chained to your bike? All of these would help…
Then again it could be nothing, its like when you ride and you just get into the swing of things, go faster and faster, take more risks and something small or a near miss might remind you that you may need to re evaluate where you are…
I hope my mind never becomes so fertile as to wind me up over a coin:D Maybe a kid put it there? Maybe the guy was recently at the dentist and the tooth fairy left it?
I was at the dentist earlier this week so maybe it was that.
anyway it was still there when I left last night so I will just try and be a bit more diligent, it was probably nothing but you never know, so always better to be safe than sorry.
