So some of you know gaz go broken into and they stole among other things 2 of his bike helmets. He had insurance but they are saying no biking stuff is covered on the house insurance.
SO he lost 2 expensive helemts 1 of which was display only and worth a few quid.
SO i phoned my insurance company to check my stuff would be covered and they do cover biking acessories if they where taken from the home so thats good. But its defianatley worth checking esp if you have memoribila and this is not covered!!! (im with Axa incase you need to change)
I know Gaz wanted to post this but he has no laptop so i have done it for him!!
Was the bike stuff specifically excluded or was it excluded becasue they were collectables that needed listing or whatever? Never seen bike stuff specifically excluded on any policy we have had.
I think Gaz should challenge that. If he used the helmets as safety equipment then they could hardly be collectors items for display and not use.
Insurance companies will do anything to weasel out of payment so its worth Gaz reading the small print of his policy and asking under what clause they are declining payment.
Hi all, I’m posting this on my iPhone so bear with me…
the insurance company have indeed refused to pay out for my helmets, (although they have agreed to pay out for the Shoei bags they were in).
Now, they are refusing to pay because my policy states (and I quote) “WHAT IS NOT INSURED - Mechanically propelled or assisted vehicles of all types (other than domestic gardening machinery), caravans, trailers, watercraft, aircraft, hovercraft, boats and parts or accessories for any of them.”
They are refusing to pay under the “parts and accessories” bit
Rest assured I have lodged a formal complaint and await their response. Next port of call is the Obudsman
Gaz At the risk of teaching Grannie… You did adress your letter to the insurance company to the Chief Executive c/o their registered address, didn’t you?
I had to start my whole claim/ombudsman stuff all over again a few years back because I’d not done that step.
As things turned out for me, they realised what my intention was when they received the CE letter and settled the claim PDQ. Worked for a pal too.
Clearly the exclusion is intended to mean you cancer t claim for a stolen bike and the top box and rack bolted to it. The insurer is talking rubbish. If they were right there would be all sorts of stupid exclusions. For example, all flat shoes belonging to a woman driver would be excluded as driving shoes, every Vespa rider would find their pinstripe suit wasn’t covered etc.
