WARNING to all City Of London riders

I’ve just had my collar felt by a speed trap at the end of the tunnel on Upper Thames St.

Apparantly according to the copper who pulled me over, the COL fuzz are running a campaign for a month on speeding…so keep 'em peeled.

These cheeky buggers were hiding behind the lamppost in front of the speed camera at the end of the tunnel.

I got caught and it was a fair cop, but don’t want to see anyone else collared if possible.

Waxy

I noticed some bikers being stopped on London Bridge (northbound) this morning.

No idea why or what for though.

I saw the biker pulled over in bus lane on LBridge too… he looked a tad sheepish… some dudes do rocket over the bridge though…

can i ride round like a nutter when the months up then?

Got pulled just outside Liverpool St the other night. Like the North end of London Bridge, it’s a favourite. Didn’t care about my loud cans, just more interested in talking crap about ‘observance’ and checking my tax disc out. Don’t they have computers for that??? Waste of f***king time…

i’ve been pulled by city of london police before, when i was a courier, the bike cop that puled me was a arsehole…no manners what so ever, i hadnt even done anything, all i did was go round a car and stop at a red light.

he rekoned i was nearly halfway across the junction…funny that cos if i had i would have been sitting in the middle of the crossroads i would have been hit by cars etc

COL old bill must be the most bored police in london.

Yep. Ill join ya

Bet it was the same one I had an encounter with last week … rode behind him towards a set of traffic lights in the right hand lane, which was right turn only, just as they were turning red. He was to the left of the lane, and I knew we’d be sat there for a while … I pulled up next to him, lifted my visor and said “lovely weather isn’t it” … his response: “I’ve got my right indicator on and you are overtaking me - you’d fail your test for that wouldn’t you?”

Knob.

i agree…KNOB:D

did you call him a knob? now that would have been funny!

i had a normal metbike cop tell me one day…‘if you keep riding like that youll be the one in need of medical services! slow the fug down!’ was a medical courier at the time, he had got all sweaty chasing me through traffic…bless him:D

Didn’t no :stuck_out_tongue: Was a bit flabbergasted … just muttered out … “wasn’t overtaking you - just passing the time of day” … then put my visor back down and looked forwards/pretended he wasn’t there.

Then I started thinking of mischevious responses …

“Wouldn’t you also fail your test for being positioned to the left of the lane when you are turning right? Isn’t that inviting someone to go around you?”

 :w00t:

Lesson learned anyway … only speak when spoken to.

My father in law was an ex COLP senior officer and always reckoned it was “the best little police force money could buy”. Make your own mind up on the translation.

He also reckoned that it had the most frustrated, and therefore most miserable, bike coppers in England.

Perhaps that’s still true?

Ooh! Thanks for that. Not seen any of them around on my way in/out from work but will be extra well-behaved.

Mmm, bad luck m8. Was the speed trap going towards The Tower of London?

ps, good job I left the bikes at home this week…not that I would have been speeding, obviously!:Whistling:

On the way home last night at around 19:40 there were some Police waiting on the south side of blackfriars bridge, you can’t see them until you’re on top of them…so be careful on the way to BM tonight in case they’re there again…

I used to see them at Blackfriars quite a lot. Is there anywhere else in the City where they are likely to catch speeders? Can’t really think of a stretch of road where anyone might have a chance to go over 30 before they hit traffic lights apart from London Wall maybe, even there they’d be visible the whole length of the road?

Were they in boats? ;)

Mmm - London Wall between the Museum of London and the junction with Moorgate takes a superhuman effort not to exceed 30mph as it is quite often empty, is wide with few side roads and good sightlines. The coppers that I have seen hide by the ruins of St Alphage’s church to catch eastbound traffic. Westbound, I’ve seen them near the junction with Wood St.

It is just about possible (I’m told…) to exceed the speed limit around Aldgate/St Botolph St if the lights are with you. Not that I’d know, obv. Likewise Holborn Viaduct.

Yup…heading towards Tower Of London.

 Nice one Ang,

There’s a little lay by just after the bridge, but, it’s obscured by the hoarding until you get right on top of it…

unlucky fella, put up that they’ve been trapping again there recently

actually had a close call myself today. there’s a speed trap at the point where the entrance to where the chelsea flower show is held on the embankment. a white van was ahead of me doing below the speed limit so went to go round him. as i did so saw the floro-green jackets in the distance and yammed the brakes on and went back to behind the slow ass van.

the guy flagged me over for a ‘polite’ chat. was actually an ok guy as it goes, commented i was a lucky bugger to not have got nabbed and to take it easy  he also mentioned they’re out in large numbers at the mo, and especially have an eye out for bikers back on the road giving it the berries now the weather has turned.

i’d have thought that overtaking implies a little extra speed to get passed the vehicle swiftly and minimise exposure to oncoming traffic. having said that, i’m glad i’m not having to argue this in court…
