Ok, ok, I know the answer is “get a bigger tank”, but I know someone who is looking for a small petrol container that he can put in his saddlebags as the tank on his bobber is very small and the petrol taps are a bit dodgy so he’s not confident in the reserve. To avoid me having to trek behind him in the car with a regular petrol cannister, can anyone point me at a small container that the petrol doesn’t leak out of that he can take with him? He’s tried testing some other containers but the petrol just seeps out round the closure.
There’s special metal ones, like flasks you can get. I don’t know any more than that though I’m affraid. Petrol will melt most plastic containers, so beware. I know this from personal experience with a milk carton and an empty fireblade tank.
So he’s discovering! He’s had rows of assorted containers lined up in his garage, can’t find any that’ll do the trick, even a cellulose thinners can leaked round the lid. Any pointers to a suitable container will give me a perfect birthday present for him.
Seem to recollect seeing one recently that look like a mini jerry can in metal…cannot think where though. Will check when I get home tonight - have a M&P catalogue there…??? I store fuel in plastic containers for my boat without trouble…depends on the type of plastic obviously.
In the meantime you can get a siphen system from M&P to syphon between bikes…a few of the lads have them havinh been caught out before…
Metal is the only way to go. Jerry can, can’t beat it. Think they were selling them at my local Sainsbury. If I see one I’ll let you know.
Cheers, you’re a star. No, I take that back - you’re ALL stars! (CM waxes lyrical after a couple of beers at home on her own while the babysitter’s out on the tiles… )
Could try a camping store. I’ve got a plastic one that’s the size of a smallish thermos and certified for fuel carrying. Even got nice tap on the top.
I got a plakker 2l one from getgeared for a fiver. Not tested it yet…
Apparently, you can get a litre of fuel in a condom tied at the end…
PMSL!
its actually 2l f fuel in a condom!! do what andrew suggested by going to a camping store and get a fuel holder from there, there only cheap and not too big and there what all the kool kids use!
Thanks peeps, birthday present (late, but what the heck) will be got from a camping shop.
Sorry to appear to be a party pooper…But carrying fuel in a saddle bag in a plastic container (even if it is certified safe for fuel use) does not seem to be a good idea.
Think of the added risks should he be involved in an accident…Erm no I don’t think I’d like to think about that too much either !
Please consider this before sending him out on a jaunt with his bag laden with fuel…!
Good point, Taz. I’ve been told he did manage to get a small metal container (one that might get him another five miles if he runs out), I think from a camping store. We’re not talking here about carrying gallons of the stuff, just enough to get him another couple of miles if he happens to run out. And it wouldn’t be permanently in his bag either.
Thanks for the concern though.
I have one too! It’s made by Triangia but other people make them too…They are ever so trendy…
The 11inch one is exactly the item I have !
I think we must be trendy types mate!
Amen to that
get a sigg bottle, they’re designed for it.
Out of interest,
In order to buy a dab of liquid parafin to clean my chain with, I had to buy a petrol cannister and then get something like 2 litres of the bloomin stuff.
Is that going to last in the cannister or will I come back one day and find a warped and dsitorted, melted petrol cannister, and a puddle of parafin running towards a Hollywood-esque lit match lying on the floor…?
(And in case you were wondering, everything HAS to have melodrama, otherwise it would just be ordinary right?)
Thong or Trunks ?
