We are thinking of moving outside of London next year.
We want to buy somewhere and with the prices at the moment there is no way we could buy something big where we are at the moment. as I would like to buy a property that could be big enough for us to start a family - i.e long term. (I want room for 2 littles Pans running around causing havoc!!!) :w00t:
So We are looking at 3/4 bed house that is easily commutable into London. either by Bike (me) or Train (me/wife)
We dont mind location (N,S,W,E).
I know that loads of you come in from outskirts of London so would like to hear about where you are or where you think fills the above criteria.
Depends on your budget chap, all the counties on the edge of London are expensive. Essex is nice, Bedfordshire is doable, Buckinghamshire and Surrey are very expensive…
I live in Epsom so give me a shout and I’ll show you round. Raynes Park, Surbiton, Worcester Park are also nice here but expensive. There’s Sutton and Cheam too, or Purley and South Croydon to consider. Kent is cheaper than Surrey so you might get more for your money that side. Esher is very expensive last time I looked.
ESSEX… lovely palce full of chavs:)), the BCR and full of nice twisties and straights, close to sea side, but seriously, I moved last year, spent on a 3 BD house as much as a flat in Stratford. I am close to the A12 ad I have been commuting on the bike every day, you also have the east anglia train that takes you straight into liverpool street if you prefer comfort.
I would say anywhere around the A12 starting with Newbury Park on to Brentwood or on the A127 but not too far outside since it will cost too much to get into London, try stick to zone 6.
I should probably put up some photos of the house so you get an idea, it has just over 100 meters inside.
We are looking at Raynes Park and Motspur Park at the moment. They are nice areas, the are lots of semi detached houses with garages (no1 priority ). The schools are grade 1 and 2 rated by Ofsted, which is good if you’re palnning littleuns. My wife has turned into a right posh tart since she married me obviously. So she want want wants Wimbledon, yeah so do I, but I cant find 700k+ :w00t:
Good luck, it a ruddy nightmare . I’m not looking forward to it. Our place goes on the market in the next few weeks.
also you want to look at what kind of illnesses you might have when your older as in some post code you’ll get free treatment, but in others you have to pay so try and plan any ilnesses now to save for the future
PS we looked at Epsom and lots of other towns in Surrey, but we couldnt find anything very exciting about them for all that money, so decided we are confirmed townies (ie inside M25).
We looked at Epsom, Esher, Leatherhead, Reigate, Redhill (cheaper), Woking, Dorking, Oxted (liked it but £££), Kingston, Twickenham (£££) , Warlingham, etc etc . It felt like flippin torture dragging round all of these places!!! TBH I’m am not that fussed but Reigate or Oxted would have done me. I think the towns on the Mole valley have been voted ’ best for quality of life ’ in various surveys (Leatherhead, Epsom), but suburban towns are all a bit ‘Mature’ I guess . Its much maligned I know, but we are in Addiscombe, Croydon and I dont dislike it. There are some crap parts too, but the houses are quite good value, everything’s here and in 7 years we have had no bother at all. Neighbours are nice, feels safe etc etc. But the wife dont rate it!!! :w00t:
