Wach out for that bump on A20. I damaged my front rim yesterday. Pics here

Location:

A20 going south where 2 lanes beomes 3 lanes, few miles before M25.

Speed:

70mph

Damage:

bent rim

Options:

Can I report it anywhere or maybe even get some £££ for repairs??? Any advise would help.

I think the precedent is you can only seek compensation from the Highways Agency or relevant Borough IF the problem has been previously reported… this suggests, they know, but haven’t done anything about it. Otherwise they could say, you were the first person to come across it, so how could they have know to get it fixed…

sounds fair

check if its already reported http://www.fixmystreet.com/reports

Bump in roadReported in the Road defect category by paul weston at 14:52, Thursday 28 June 2012
Sent to Bromley Council 3 minutes later

At the expansion jiont in the road, in the 1st and 2nd lane. a bump occurs so severe as to knock me 6" off the seat of my motorcycle. this could have lethal consequences for the passenger on a m/cycle. don’t do the suspension on my car any good either.

UpdatesThis report is now being investigated.

We have investigated this report and it will now be actioned. Please note, the Council is not responsible for issues on private land or Transport for London roads and regrettably if your issue is of this nature, we are unable to progress your report any further.

So it’s been reported and marked as fixed. Which is clearly not

i’d be asking for a new wheel, i suspect you have a pretty good case.

Should I get a quote for new wheel from BMW and go after bromley council or just by it and present them an invoice?

Blimey. If you do get financial help, are you free to purchase what you like, or must you replace it with as-before? I ask because that’s probably not going to be the last pothole you hit so perhaps it’s time for some sturdier rims…

the more i look into it the more it looks like a waste of time. don’t have time for this.

But thanks for advice banman & theprawn

don’t know mate, I guess they’d pay for stock rim

I wouldn’t just be your rim, if the impact was hard enough to damage your rim it would have done something to the tyre too.

Might take a bit of effort but it is def worth it.
DanielGT has gone through something similar he might be worth talking to for some know how. Though I would email him as he is away for 6 weeks or so.

Isn’t it a TFL road rather than a Bromley road?

It should have been reported through the TFL road faults website instead or at least as well.

Bromley have probably marked it as “fixed” to clear their record as they are not responsible for it.

Welcome to London…Those rims mean you’re a real rider

got a quote of £150 for a repair. 1 week without bike

Not sure where you are but these chaps in Kent do a ride in ride out service for that price, a lot less if you send it to them.
