Viper RS-V131 Helmet

Anyone got one of these helmets?

Just wondering what they’re like for the price. Wouldn’t mind one for around town…having a flip front is quite appealing to me for when I’m sitting at lights, plus there’s the bonus of the bluetooth and the built in darkened visor

Not had a viper but have had a caberg and nolan, both flip front. They are ok on upright bikes but the extra weight can be a pain on a sportsbike in traffic. Just something to consider.

the Konda was fairly heavy (all flippers are) and fairly noisy also didnt have a pinlock. other than that, it was alright tbh.

The Konda is 250g heavier than yours I think Jamie

i had a Konda and it IS heavy but most full flip face lids are. still got the lid too

I love my Caberg Trip/Konda.

I loved mine when I had it. I do like flip faces but I prefer lightness now

I have the previous version - the Viper RS-V121 - and really like it. At 1.8kg its noticeably heavier than my old AGV(at 1.45kg) and the wind noise is also higher. I think both aspects have been improved on with the 131, hence it will probably be my next helmet purchase. The 131 weighs in at nearer 1.7kg and comes with a better inbuilt bluetooth speaker system and sound insulation. For a flip front helmet it has pretty good peripheral vision, and its nice to see the padding is shaped to allow people to wear glasses comfortably and if like me you need to wear glasses there is still room to raise/lower the internal dark visor. The ventilation system inevitably contributes much of the wind noise, but is pretty good at keeping the replaceble clear external visor from misting up. I don’t think the internal visor is replaceble.

The helmet is not entirely watertight in torrential rain but I have yet to find any flip front which is. The bluetooth system is very versatile and reliable. Fully charged the battery will last around 11 hours, and it was completely unaffected by heavy rain. It will support any two simultaneous connections so TomTom and iPhone/iPod, or even a short range bike to bike comms link for pillions or riders with similar bluetooth helmets.

Of course the helmet has the mandatory ECE approval and a decent Sharp safety rating, it is British Motorcycle Sport approved so even OK for track days.

Once you get used to the operating tab locations, the internal dark visor and flip front work really well even wearing winter gloves. The rachet fastening is a lot easier than a twin buckle fastener and once adjusted is a a breeze to open/close without taking gloves off. Sizes are generous a medium is nearer a large for most other helmet makes, so make sure you try for size. Oh and the instructions are about as hopeless as a typical Ikea flat pack…

You need to throw that lid away. I’ve had my Caberg Trip for almost 3 years and its been dropped once its still 100% water proof, the locking mechanism works a treat. Not to mention the Trip has a 5* SHARP rating and costs £109.99.
