Video Arm - Inital Pictures & Info

OK then here goes… The experimentation starts 

Some quick pictures of testing where I can put the mount of the bike and how much weight it’ll take…

First thoughts are that the arm quality itself is FANTASTIC… the tripod head isn’t the best and it’s a shame. Going to be interesting until I gain my confidence in the whole thing.

Finding somewhere to put it isn’t the easiest, as I planned to figure that out when the kit arrived so I’ve just tried for now the rear foot peg and the grab rail but ore over time …

Here it is mounted “as standard” on the grab rail. The clamp doesn’t come with it I had to buy this extra.

Just testing here how much weight it could take… The Canon 510 isn’t an issue but the VX1000e is a little heavy in this position

This I think will be the standard video shot for the moment :

And here’s a few just bolting it to the rear footpeg… Again just testing :

As for where I got it . I bought it from : http://www.bigbinoculars.com/steadymount.htm

I paid $200 US including shipping to the UK where the VAT man then grabbed another £30 off of me.

Will be out taking some stills with it later to see if I can get some “motion” shots and hopefully then over to Waterloo for the meet up tonight.

You Flash B*****d…I want one !!

Quality mate…love it !!

I would add some other security to your camera - I made a home made tank mount for a camcorder and had probs with the tripod mount working loose so i put a couple of turns of insulation tape round the whole lot… just in case

Looks good though

Kinda looks ok but I would be a tad nervy about my camera on there. Chances of knocking it must be quite high and it will upset the balance of the bike a tad as well. You also risk having some git swipe it as its so easy to see, we all know what London town is like. I hope that your videoing is successful and you enjoy the playback.

Think I shall stick to bullet cams myself, they don’t show up and are easily mounted anywhere on the bike.

i will be putting my bullet cam on the arm as well have no fear. The main issue i have wity BC’s is they aren’t widescreen … In the long run this will be used more with a digital SLR.

Nice one Lee, though please don’t forget you have it there when filtering through traffic or it’ll end it tears! Are you coming on the St George’s Day ride-out? Would be great to get some footage…

What about installing a ball-joint in the yoke-stem area and having the camera pointed forwards? I’ve seen this position used for still cameras and GPS units.

LOL no I wont forget it when filtering

I’m planning not to use it all the time but on specific runs etc etc… I’m not on the St Georges run unfortunately, having to do the family thing as the nephew is running in the London Youth Marathon next weekend, but if I can get out of it I will .

As for positioning , I just need to play with it I think and see what works… The little Canon DV camera I have doesn’t have a wide enough angle but if eBay comes through I have found one for £5 !

Off for a ride now with the SLR snapping away ( oh jesus )

So do yu still want a hand with the Westminster GP idea?

yes mate… you about at Cabana tonight ?

and I’ve just been out with the arm and the Bullet Cam !

The rear grab rail isn’t the place for the arm, the flex is too much and the bouncing makes the arm drop… in fact my bullet cam ate tire in the end

Lots of playing to do, but that’s just an excuse to get out more… Some of the angle you get are interesting… Here’s a quick crappy video it just goes to show you have to remember it’s out there ( as the road sign nearly got it ) .

Pretty cool Lee!

looks cool, just hope some theiving pikey dont lean out his window at the traffic lights and take it

“Thieving Pikey”

LoL

Every the eloquent

Didn’t make is as was knackered from last training run before Sunday.

Just looked back at your post and realised you wanted to do it this weekend. No can do as it’s too close to the marathon. Following weekend is a goer though.

No worries mate. I might still be up for a run in London. Cant do the next two weeks as of next friday i fly to sunnier climates for two week

Looks really good mate

LCaller nice new toy you have there and the angels aren’t to shabby either, I would luv to see how I ride, good luck with it.
