VFR 400 Help

Hiya,
I have an ongoing issue with my NC30 when starting and I know this can be a common problem with these older bikes!!
Right so, I’m starting the bike with a little choke and fires everytime without fail, the problem is when it appears to warm up it is then fading, even if I give it more choke or less.
I’ve had it checked out a few time with the garage I use namely city bikes though they are still not finding the problem. It is very intermitant, at times it’s absolutly fine and others it’s not.
I don’t really want to spend another £100 + on the garage I go to for them to find they can’t find the fault.

So I’m really hoping somebody here knows these bikes and can have a look for me or any garage to recommend who are familiar with them.

I love the bike and being a girl I’m quite emotional about it, I just want to love and cherish her again!

I spoke to a couple of guys at LB last week and I’m not sure of your contacts hence the post.

I’m more up on NC24s rather than the 30s, however I can heartily recommend this site http://www.400greybike.com/forum/index.php for anything to do with the baby VFRs, quite frankly if they can’t help you there, you’re knackered. Make it clear you’re a girl and you’ll get plenty of help and attention;) , more seriously it really is the place for NC30.

Ian

it sounds like a dirty carb or possibly one that is letting in air through a cracked rubber hose. Im gonna go for dirty carb and jets though.

my zxr 400 had a faulty fuel cut off switch i dnt no if the nc30’s have these but if they do it might b worth checking

The 400greybike forum gets a thumbs up from me. I go there when I have issues/questions about my GSXR400. The guys on there know what there is to know about 400 imports.

Hey Solman, Great to meet you last night at BMM!
I got it all sorted through a guy that used to work on them for years. Turns out it was the floats in the carbs that just needed cleaning up. So simple though wasnt happy with the garage I used to use since I’d paid out a couple hundred for them to fix the flipping problem! Not going back their again!
Anyway, might be down BMM next week so may see ya there!

Hey! Nice to meet you too  It was my first time there. Nice bunch down there so may turn up again next week. I don’t think I saw another 400 there, maybe next time I’ll come on mine.

Carb problems are common on the GSXR 400 as well; usually the O-rings. By the way, I liked your VFR but when you said you rode down to Hastings on it I started hurting just thinking about doing that on a 400! I use mine in London now and again, usually in the poorer weather. Its great round town, like your VFR. Nice thing about the older bikes is I’m more inclined to try and fix it myself without being scared of totally breaking it like I am with the modern bikes!
