I’ve got a ybr125, it’s great but I want something I can get up to 70mph so
I don’t feel like such a knob on a dual carriageway. I’m stuck 55mph at present.
That said I’m bonkers skint so need the economy of a 125.
Finally I’m planning on riding out to Europe to find some sun and poontang
soon as I pass my test. The ybr just won’t cut a trip like that.
So what do you think of the Varadero 125? It does 70mph and is a cheap to
run tourer? Good idea?
It will give you better carrying capacity, a better riding experience than the YBR, but performance wise it is even heavier than the YBR. Most of the 125’s ‘claim’ to be able to do 70mph. Maybe downhill with a following wind!
I had a Varadero 125. Indeed it is heavier than the ybr but it does have a little more power. It is the maximum for a CBT of 14.8bhp. The problem with dual carriageways is that you’ll be more than comfortable at 65mph there will be nothing in reserve so if you hit a hill while over taking you will slow down.
That said it is a great bike and I enjoyed riding mine before getting something bigger.
Not sure if you can tour europe on a CBT though. I would check that out, I think you will need a bike license be it A, A1 or A2 before you can ride in other countries.
I would get something bigger, but cash is the limiting factor, thinking of petrol and insurance really.
I get over 100 mpg on my ybr if I’m careful and I would expect a varadero to be similarish. Big bikes
just drink too much.
Trying to get an A2 without training too, to save cash. Riding in London for 6 months is good training,
just adding some polish in car parks and studying videos of mod 1 & 2.
I had one of the new Varadero’s back in 2007. Fantastic bike and had it up at 70 on more than a few occasions - Southend shakedown 2008 anyone That trip the engine came back sounding like Tom Waits after three encores.
I’m pretty sure you can’t take it abroad on a CBT though.
