I think it was a dodgy excuse when I confronted a rider last night for furiously beeping behind me when filtering through traffic on the A40.
It was the second time he had done this to me…strangely same place the day before.
Yam FZ1 rider…J18 MUN
It annoyed me then, but last night I’d had enough.
When I asked what he was upto, he said “I was trying to clear the traffic so WE could get through”
I told him not to bother (few extra words involved) and he rode off before I’d finished…
One of the three bikes following him, stopped next to me and said he had been doing the same to him.
Personally, I think bike riders have enough of a tough time in traffic, without trying to annoy other road users.
I have never used my horn other than for warning…
but have seen others using them aggresively for ‘moving traffic’ as well as the ‘clutch in, rev’ technique, which I also despise.
In some other countries, this is the norm, but in the UK it’s just plain rude and helps give us all a bad name, so I am fully with you Adzski.
The only times I rev is if I’m going past a van etc where there might be a pedestrian about to emerge, or as Shiver says, if you might end up going over someone’s bonnet.
Personally I’m all for making as much noise as I can while filtering. I’d rather the cagers see/hear me and call me a stupid twat than not see/hear me and knock me off!
Oh, and this is just a general comment, not to anybody in particular. If a bike behind you wants to go faster, move over and let them go. Don’t get all stubborn and assume your going fast enough because you obviously aren’t! If they crash later, their fault.
I like cheekychicks way of doing things…just shout at every other road user:w00t: she gets quite scary as well:Whistling: she’s even scared a few bus drivers in her time…i kid you not;)
Just need to be aware of what’s around you. I always say thanks when someone (biker) moves out of the way for me. And when one creeps up on me, I’m happy to let him pass for two reasons:
If he’s filtering faster than me in Central London, he’s either stupid, has no respect for general road rules, or on a PROPER mission, in which case… who am I to stand in his way.
AS long as they know I’m there I couldn’t care what any of those monkey’s think.
Least if he’s beeping I know he’s there.
Doesn’t mean I would move out of his, in fact, I’d probably slow down… his problem not mine. Then we’re slower (and safer) when his tiny little brain fry’s the tiny little circuit that goes… “Must go faster…out of my way, must go fa…fzzztzztz…short circuit…must hit obstacle”
When we hit that point I want to be doing slow speed so there’s no lethal moron antics…
I find beeping really rude and annoying. If they haven’t moved, rev slightly I think. Gives peopel a chance to notice you and move. Beeping is live shouting, reving is like asking. IMHO.
i agree with you on the horn thing but in my opinion theres nout wrong with using your rev’s to warn traffic you’re approaching so that they dont move without looking or so that so they see you early and can decide if they want to move over or not
Often a horn is heard more than revs, especially if you want something in front fo you to take notice.
@ Shiver - you missing me? lol
I’m certainly missing Friday night mayhem. Maybe I will try and start a Friday night trend here in NY and we can compare which conutry had the least incidents :w00t:
I’d love to see how you’d react if a car wouldn’t get out of your way to allow you to make progress…being on a bike doesn’t make it ok to impose your riding limits/abilities on fellow riders. As I said before, let them through and if they crash, you can have a smug moment while you help them up.
Fair play Sherrie, but I don’t humpy about cars not progressing.
Seriously, I’m a emotional volcano off the bike, but on it I ride like a wuss… don’t you remember going on that First On Scene aid course… you were always about 2 miles ahead of me…
