The title says it all! on BMWs or Harleys or something - rented of course. Would like to see if a few blokes would like to join me. Don’t really want to do it alone. Would NOT be a race or anything like that. More like, here’s the starting point and we have to be there on that date to get a flight back - in between free form! would look at doing route 66 of course, some rides through nice states, the rockies, etc.
Any thoughts welcome.
PS: don’t think this works with 10+ people. Max probably 7-8 to make it manageable.
I was reading about that trip in Ride the other week … looks really interesting and definitely something i would like to do. My only problem would be taking out a whole month in one go … 2-3 wks shouldn’t be a prob tho

Re time, I think a month is a bit the high end in terms of time. I think realistically that 3 weeks is what everyone can get away with at best. I could probably swing 4 weeks but would be very alone in that camp… so 3 weeks is the plan.
2 weeks is too short. you’d be rushing a bit in my opinion.
That’s exactly what I was thinking …3 weeks would be just about right, allowing time to stop off for touristy stuff, and hopefully less scope for saddle sores!
what sort of cost is it for hiring the bikes? and what sort of cost are we talking about for the 3 weeks including flights spending money etc? i looked on some sights regardfing hiring and seems very expensive, with mileage limits etc etc
I think the bikes, if you rent nice bikes like good BMWs or Harleys, recent and stuff is roughly GBP400 per week. So i’d be GBP1200 for 3 weeks. that includes all insurance, breakdown cover, assistance etc. just not fuel (but in the states that’s not much). If we rent 5 bikes or more we’d get probably up to 10-15% discount.
Then the flights between London and East coast and then return from West coast are not that expensive I think depending on the carrier. If you book like 3-4 months in advance you’d probably pay GBP350 return in economy.
Hotels on the way and food can’t be that expensive. most of the places would be motels on the way and maybe if you guys care some nicer ones towards the end or in the middle if people are motivated by spending a bit more (i would be for, but am a team player). Prob all in food + hotel would be 800GBP.
So total could be GBP2,500 including some extras here and there. Trip of a lifetime guys!!! worth it…
