Sorry for the spam guys but need some advice quickly as I am going to book this up today.
Is it best to split the four DAS days up? I am a little concerned about saturation if I do not have a break.
I equally worry about losing more time should I fail by splitting it in half by a week, (finishing march 18th instead of 9th) because then if I do fail, there is less chance of squeezing in another test.
It’s very intense, yes, but you’ll be surprised at just how much you improve in that time. The disciplines really get drummed into you - I reckon the relentless nature of the course does much more good than harm.
If I were you, though, I wouldn’t be going out on the razz in the evenings. And be prepared to ache a bit - take lots of hot baths!
It’s well worth sticking it out.
Edit: I should add that I did my CBT and DAS in one six-day block. It was my second stab at the CBT (after not quite making it through the week before), so I had six solid days of riding. Plus I borrowed a CG125 for two nights to ride around on and practice.
After all that, I was knackered. But I passed first time with no minors.
I did my DAS as a block of 4 days and it worked pretty well for me. It’s an exhausting 4 days, but I don’t think I would have been any better at the end had I split the days up TBH. I had done my CBT 3 months earlier and spent 3 months riding my 125 though so I had a reasonable amount of road experience before my DAS.
Did my CBT/DAS last April. Did the CBT one Sunday, then started the DAS a week later, Mon-Thurs with test first thing Fri morning.
I’d be lying if I said it was easy, it’s exhausting, you will feel knackered (both mentally and physically) at the end of each day but a hot bath and bed around 9pm ish will have you feeling as right as rain for the next day.
Don’t worry- you will prob find it pretty intense but in a strange way that may improve your riding and ultimately your test. I admit that I had one very poor day during my training when I felt particularly strung out & ended up inadvertently brake-testing the instructor on the A3- he nearly ran into me- ooops! He certainly let me know about it at the end of the day- and I haven’t made the same mistake again.
After all, when you’ve passed your test you will not always be riding feeling fresh as a daisy.
Good luck! You’ll have a great time. On the overthinking thing - if you apply the same philosophy to you’re riding (especially slow riding) you’ll do well
Yeah, you will ach and you will be skull f**ked by the end of the day, but enjoy it. Don’t be to harsh on yourself. After all, to one extent or another, you are learning a new skill. How long did it take you to learn to ride a push bike???
I did my CBT last August (on a very wet Saturday) then under a week later I sat my theory. Followed by an intense DAS course (thanks to Camriders of Hendon) and then my test. Gone from zero knowledge to full licence in under a month.
All the best and good luck. Keep us informed as to your progress.
