How - Entry speed into thel ast corner of the lap far too high, straight lining it, the applying throttle to early and in part highsiding.
Why - in an attempt to re-overtake and pass Nicky Hayden to win the race (which thinking about it, it he was successful would have cost Nicky Hayden the championship, anyhow) went in to the last corner of the last lap too fast, bothin Colin and Nicky straight lining the corner, Colin in an attempt to come out first hit the throttly too early and highsiding. Nicky won.
