U-Turns...

Have you ever watched guys and girls on big bikes almost hover when they come to lights or waiting in traffic? This is the magic of the revs, clutch and back brake playing in absolute harmony. What it does essentially (as I’m not a scientific expert here) is stretch the bike which in turn gives you stability.

Obviously it’s impossible to truly hover but you can get pretty close with this technique. It’s being able to balance the bike like this that makes a U Turn super simple. revs up, back brake on and feathering the clutch. Then all you need to do is look where you want to go and hey presto.

It does take some practice, but it feels like you’ve mastered Kung Fu

National Treasure - swivel the hips, to lean the upper body.

I agree with Pricetta on the feel of it but I can’t get my head around the ‘stretch theory’ - I always assumed (without any real knowledge) that keeping the revs up gave you a bit of gyroscopic benefit, it certainly feels more stable with some revs.

PaulaDe: I reckon your man needs a left /right lesson

Not good enough. He put his foot down at the end.

Got my re-test next thursday, think as long as I keep my head up and pointing where I want to go, i’ll be ok. Gonna get some practise in on the weekend and a quick one before the test.
