A friend of mine who lives in Redhill got a nail in the rear tyre of a 600 Hornet. No local tyre places they talked to would plug it. Quoting some “safety” BS. The nail is in the centre of the tyre - no side walls etc etc.
Anyone got any suggestions for places in that area who would do it?
Guildford Tyres are one of the places who refused.
Total bo-lax. All they want to do is sell tyres.
My friend does not want to have to come over to FWR/Essential Rubber or my local place The Motorcycle Service Centre who would repair it.
Any ideas peeps?
Thanks
Depends on damage to the tyre construction. Try MD Racing he’s on here and will give you an honest opinion.
Are repaires safe for extended road use ??
Always thought there a temp thing , " to get U home " or to a shop to get new tyre
Are the ones they do from inside the tyre safe ?
Gotta be much stronger than the road-side plug & inflate kits they do
as posted plenty of times buy a plug kit and do it yourself…just changed my rear tyre that I plugged over 2000 miles ago and I dont hang about on the 'bird…jeez its not rocket science is it ?
oh and only changed tyre as got to the canvas plug was still intact
repairs done properly with a cemented plug pushed through from the inside of the tyre outwards are fine, & about 30 quid…
Whoever said it can’t be repaired is talking through a hole in their tyre.
Last Saturday I discovered a big screw straight through the centre of my back tyre (2011 ER-6F, bought July, still the original tyres). No other damage - just smack bang in the middle of the tread.
Rang Matt at the Oval Maintenance Centre who told me if it had gone straight in and was in the tread, no damage to the walls, it could be repaired.
I carefully rode over there and an hour later we’d done the job. Lovely repair with a patch on the inside and a plug to seal the hole. Total cost = £27.50. £20 for the bench time, £7.50 for the plug. Grease, tools, etc all part of the £20.
And I learned about removing my rear wheel etc to get the job done.
Big up for OMC.
PS. I asked how long the repair would last and Matt said it would be fine until the end of the tyre’s use.
So no tips on Redhill area tyre fixers? I and my friend understand the problem of a nail perfectly.
I should have asked you to fix my tyre then
Should have just gone to essential rubber £25.00 and you wouldn’t have to lift a finger
Where’s the fun in that though? I enjoyed learning more about the bike and how stuff works
As I said in my original post my friend does not necessarily want to have to come all the way to Essential/FWR etc. They would prefer local for them.
sorry to steal the thread, but i got a puncture on Thursday, RAC came out and plugged it at the roadside.
should i be getting a permanent fix in there, my local bike shop said it should be fine on the temporary one, and i can ignore the 50mph top speed i was told.
