Ok, so I passed my test on an automatic, which means I have an auto-only license, limited to 33bhp for two years. I can also ride a manual 125 with L plates without ever needing to do a CBT again.
If say three years from now I do a manual test on a 125, will I be limited to 33bhp for another two years for manual bikes? Or will I be able to do the manual test on a 125 and then ride any bike straight away (since I’ve done my two year wait, albeit with the auto license)?
When I did the DAS the other guy doing his Mod1 turned up on an Aprilla Mana 850 Automatic.
Even though he’d had his automatic license for 20 years he would have had to wait the two years again if he did the test on the 125. So he was doing the DAS.
My advice would be to do the DAS as soon as you can.
Why the hell would you do an auto licence anyway? Surely common sense would be to do a manual licence and if you want an automatic motorcycle get one. Then you’d have the freedom to ride whatever you want.
Because I already own an auto bike, and it only cost me £90 to do it? If I wanted to do it on a manual bike, I’d have had to either buy a second bike or hire one to practise one and then do the test, or go to a school and pay for a course. That would be significantly more expensive.
Actually there’s a benefit for manual bikes too - I can now ride a manual 125 with L plates for the rest of my life without ever having to do a CBT again
