Just a warning to anyone using this Motorcycle bay:
I rode my bike up to one of our Data Centres yesterday afternoon, parked it in a motorcycle bay at the end of Naval Row, its a dead end road, not very busy, right next to East India Dock DLR.
I was only popping into our data centre for 10 minutes so didn’t bother using my disc lock (silly me), however I actually spent closer to 30 minutes in there.
When I got back out, I could see in the distance two little scrotes eyeing up my bike and a black Vespa next to it, one of them sat on the Black Vespa but then spotted me and quickly got back on their Silver Vespa and sped off.
I was unable to get the license plate but I don’t think it would have helped anyway as it looked dodgy - was hanging on by a screw
They were both just wearing T shirts/polos and tracksuit bottoms, one had a black white HJC Helmet with a green and white striped polo/tshirt and grey bottoms, don’t remember much about the other one, both White and scrawny looking
These are the very guys I saw eyeing up my bike today! I only had it tuesday!! I’ve got no garage to keep it in. It’s parked between my car and a hedge. That’s the best I can do for now. I’m going to start asking my neighbours if they are willing to rent out their garage if they have the space. Otherwise my bike will be gone before I can even ride it. Unfortunately I didn’t catch the plate either
Maybe get a cover to keep it away from prying eyes, if you get one with a hole to put a lock through you can add an alarmed disc lock so that you get alerted of someone is trying to remove the cover and you can run out to have a few words with the scallywag.
Dont know if your gonna d.i.y your anchor or get it done but this guy http://www.anchor-man.co.uk/ is a pesonal friend an has done abit of work for other lb’ers too deffo knows his stuff an trust me i grew up in e.14 you need to sort your security sooner rather than later .
If you go to www.met.police.uk and on the right hand side is a ‘Local Policing’ section. Put in your postcode and your local Safer neighbourhoods team will come up. I think Leamouth is covered by Blackwall SNT but don’t quote me.
Most the officers on the SNT know the local bike thieves and will probably have a pretty good idea who it is. All you have to do is drop them an email and they will get back to you within 24-48 hours.
Anywhere in London is a nightmare for bike thefts. It’s easy money for the scum and the punishment is minimal.
An Oxford Stormex has locking loops at the front and back. They are really robust too. I think a tramp or a traffic warden trying to see the residents permit had a go at mine and it ripped a bit but didn’t give way. Putting the cover on top and locking it to both wheels increases the ball ache factor of stealing it a lot. An alarmed disk lock is also an option. They are not amazing but if it’s close enough to your house you should be able to hear it and it will be difficult to disable quickly as there is no easy access to the battery compartment.
