I’m mulling travelling up to some place near leicester (apparently it’s somewhere north of the river??) on saturday to swap my cbf600sa, 2005 9,500 miles bike for a 2000 11,000 mile 955 triumph sprint. there’s nothing wrong with my bike and it’s pretty honest and reliable if a bit dull. I can’t help thinking it’s a case of the grass being greener and it’ll all end in disappointment. That said, there’s also a 2001 Firestorm with 20,000 miles on the clock available near dartford. Any advice, I mean, is the sprint to be avoided. It looks in very good nick from the internet. Thanks.
Why the swap to an older bike with more miles? Is it just that you’ve always wanted one or something? If it was me I’d go and look at the Firestorm 1st as its closer - I know nothing about the 2 bikes but Firestorms do some amazing with a couple of un-baffled cans!
Agree with Mark, why the straight swap - surely you deserve some cash too?
Other thing all 3 bikes are completely different - try test riding a few before making your mind up - you might not like the bike you get on Sat, then what?
PM NorfolknChance on here - he has a older Sprint, might be able to give you heads up on what to look out for, and what’s good about them.
Firestorm - not really a sports tourer with a range of 90 miles from the tank.
Thanks for that. I’m just thinking something with more power would be nice and also, for various reasons, now might be the time to get the bike I’ll stick with for the next few years. So I’m casting about for something that’ll fit the bill, although I don’t really have spare cash for anything other than a straight swap. Maybe the bike I have already fits the bill and I should just be satisfied.
Firestorm is a lovely bike, and sounds good. The other guys are right though, you shouldn’t just grab something older if you’re not sure!
Go test ride a few!
We all get those grasses greener twinges mate - my only advice is to take your time and don’t by on an impulse - spend the winter months reading about/looking at potential bikes - by spring you’ll know what you want and you’ll have made the right decision.
That, and from everyone else, sounds like sound advice. Thanks, other opportunities will come along.
Sometimes its nice to have a look and sit on some bikes u fancy though - I was at BAT motorcycles on Saturday and looked at a few nice bikes that I’ve always wondered about and after sitting on them and looking at them none of them were enough to make me chop in my GSXR, I rode away a happy man
I have had a 2000 Triumph Sprint RS with 64K on the clocks, still sweet as could be and in excellent condition, only pitting on the forks to give any clues to age/mileage. I’ve now got a 2002 Triumph Sprint RS with 8K on the clocks and it is the better of the two, bit more power, smoother and looks just as good, but no pitting on forks. They are cracking good bikes, I moved to one from a VFR750 and have never regretted it. Smooth power, lots of low down torque and seemless delivery of power. You can have a lot of fun on these bikes. Quite economical too. 50 odd mpg on motorways and 38mpg commuting (36mpg if I am naughty!)
Dont know wot your funds etc are like m8 but check insurance b4 going bigger cc’s
i believe there is quite a jump from 600 to 1000, even from 600 to 750.
i was gonna swap my b12 for a TL1000 and me insurance went up £100 a yr, not a lot to some people but thought might as well keep the b12, similar with a zx7r another £50 on top of the b12 premium.
worth checking insurance first otherwise stick with the 600 or swap for another 600, gsxr or summat.
Forgot to say, previous to my b12 i had a 600 srad and to change to the b12 only cost me£20, go figure, lol. it all has to do with sports bikes, tourers etc.
Sprint RS is a Sports Tourer, Grp 14 Ins and costs me £380 TPFT with 2years NCB in SE2 area, street parking - no security declared (but lots used!). Only a touch more than the VFR750 and way way better to ride.
Yeah, already checked. It’ll be about 180 quid more a year fully comp but that’s what, 12 quid a month? so doable. thanks
