I’m thinking about changing my 2001 Fireblade for a Speed Triple 955i.
I’m 6’5" and quiet leggy! A while ago I had a bike accident which has left a bit of lower back and shoulder pain. I’m thinking about something a bit more upright and like the idea of a Brit bike.
I have about a 25-30 mile each way trip, which involves a long stint up the A2 (Gravesend through the Blackwall and Limehouse Tunnels) and then a bit of London riding. I tend to ride all weathers.
Are there any Speed Triple riders who commute on them, can give any reviews etc?
I had a black Daytona 955i for about three years before it got nicked. I used to commute every day to central London on it and loved it.
Rode to Athens on it.
really comfortable on long distances and in traffic, so I would imaging the Speed triple would be fine.
It sounds fantastic, with loads of torque and I still think the 955i Speed Triple was the best.
Didn’t rust either like all my jap bikes have!
ive had 3 of them, 2 955i and one 1050, and they are great to commute on, my 955i was a very reliable bike, loved the triple sound as i still do, its punchy smooth and just great all round bike! if you can get the newer shape 955i with digi clocks 02 onwards… change the oil every 2000/3000 miles and you wont go far wrong. Build quality was brilliant, mine was an 02 and it was just loverly… 57,000 miles on the clock and still going strong
955i engined Triumphs are great fun to ride. have a look at a Sprint RS as well, also roomy (6ft5 here) and comfortable. As Westie says, regular oil changes, keep it looked after and it will go on and on. I had one with 68K on the clocks and it was a joy to ride. The current one has 28K on the clocks and is smooth as ever.
The Street Triple is a great all rounder and commuter - but then I am a foot shorter than you at 5 foot 5, so you might find the Speed is more suitable for your height. However, both the Street and Speed have many similarities - I personally found that despite a bit of a harsh front end and slightly snatchy throttle, the Street has been great at slow speeds and easy to ride around town.
