would placing your plate like this get you in hot water assuming you used a full or near full sized plate?
I think I have someone with a plate on that position here in uk.
ps: I have moved your post to the Pictures&Videos area. Hope you don’t mind
In the UK I am sure that you would get busted for that, its ok on show bikes but on the road, the plate is not clearly visible and would get you pulled. If you go to the DVLA web site ther is a section about number plates somewhere.
not worth the attention having a small plate.
As far as I understand it the plate has to be visible from the rear but the law doesn’t say it has to be visible to a camera between 2 and 4 metres above the ground which I believe is what you are asking.
As you said realy, aparently it need to be seen in a box directly from the rear e.g. plod car.
you need one of these matey…
hold up wheres it gone…

Its called velcro DOH!!
i have that too!!!
No it isn’t. It’s called perverting the course of justice.
I wouldn’t run that 'plate personally, it’s asking for a tug, but the Ducati picture above is tasty, wouldn’t mind a go!
there isnt an emoction for “shaking in my boots”
ill take my chances, but you think i would ride round like that… ill push down a little bit so you can actually see that the plate is there, its mainly for display purpose and all the other brackets looked shit, u have to admit it does look a much better arse end…???
Will either of these do:
I thought this has been covered many times before…
Having the mechanism alone is perverting the course of justice, as you’d have no reason but avoiding speed cameras to have one. For show purposes, you would be expected to put it on at the show.
its not motorised its manual and its fairly tight it doesnt look like its hinged ill stick with it i love to live dangerously
anyways my mate has a Duc his plate sits where the reflector sits above the exhaust and is the same size as said relector, but he never brings it out although im hoping for st georges day he comes out then you can all see a 20k ducati 748 looks like…
First the offence is attempting to pervert… and having a velcro fitted plate and/or a flip up plate doesn’t make you guilty regardless of what Police officers think. You need to prove intent or Mens rea as well as Actus rea as this offence is not an absolute offence (as I understand it). If having a removable plate was an offence every articulated lorry driver would be in court as they carry a plate for their current trailer held on normally with a clip. They’re not all in court as they don’t have the intent to commit an offence, in fact their removable plate is there so they don’t commit an offence. Must admit though you see a hell of a lot of artics where this plate has mysteriously fallen off don’t you?
I do of course expect to be shouted down for this post
The threat of Attempting to pervert the cause of justice is just the latest weapon to be seized upon by the police along with threats of perjury even when not under oath.
Well, IMHO the black Ducati has great plate positioning … I would do the same myself!
My plate can be a bit tricky to read depending on what angle you view it from … I won’t go into any more detail than that!
If you park in Central London, industrial velcro, or a single screw attachment is the way forward, as parking bays are stupidly scarce and parking wardens are far too eager to collect their commission.
It shouldn’t be like this … it’s a shame really.
hey flatout. i’ve heard about that on the ducs. defo interested to see what it looks like but riding round regularly would prob get more undesirable attention than i already receive.
that setup on yours is pretty cool (have a really itching for an R1 and is prob the bike that would tempt me back from the twin side…apart from maybe an agusta ). if you ride on the track then a flip-up or velcro plate is handy as hell (and one less thing to lose/destroy).
SP: sadly, in Central London, the parking attendants tow away bikes without licence plates & tax discs, claiming they’ve been abandoned. Either that, or they claim it’s for terrorism that they have to remove all vehicles parked illegally and without plates.
There’s a lot this country could learn from the continent when it comes to tolerance towards bikes & their parking. Last weekend, I was in Rome, and when in Rome, I do as the Romans do: park my bike where I bloody well want to park it, i.e., on the pavement right outside the shop I want to visit. Here, 45min of riding around will finally get you into a bike bay, about 20min walk from the shop.
Paivi I agree it is a sad state of affairs.
The only area in London that treats couriers with any respect in regards to parking is Canary wharf where there are courier only bays as well as a large number of free bays for motorcyclists in the car parking areas.
Also if you look around Westferry circus you will see bikes parked on the pavement with no threat of tickets.
