Yes I do think there is a much deeper underlying problem. What I’m saying is, this incident is being used as an excuse for vandalism. It is not the reason for it. Perhaps I wasn’t clear in my response earlier.
Seroiusly Kaos this aint a political protest. There are no banners, demands, attacks on political bodies or public authorities - this is random looting. They are attacking places with high value goods and is organised mindless violence and robbery. I understand that people are angry and furstrated with the financial crisis at the moment but this has nothing to do with that, because it is majority kids who never had a job to lose, a mortgage to pay or a family to support…they just want a new flat screen tv or a pair of top of the range nike trainers. Now I am the usual lefty on this forum but even I can not defend/justify this.
We’ve got deep rooted problems thats for sure. So has every society and not everything can be solved. Lots of bullshit flies about but where’s the proper research into the ROOT cause? Very miffed with try this, try that, I think this will work, 'lessons will be learned in procedures improved ’ arrrrrrrgh makes my piss boil.
Theresa May tonight: ‘There is no excuse for thuggery, no excuse for violence…’ No excuse excuse for you lot friggin your expenses either. Fraud or arson, which do you prefer luvvie? Both very naughty. No excuse for police taking bribes, no excuse for our public figures looking for super injunctions either. Pot, kettle, black . The disadvantaged in society - what have they got to look forward to? The powerful in society - where are the opportunities? And where is your moral guidance? Where are the carrots and sticks?
I’ve just heard that shops in Clapham are being looted by masked thugs. This is just down the road from me. I’m so angry that these mindless scum are making me and my wife feel so unsafe and wrecking the community. I’m shaking with frustration and rage.
they need to call for that water cannon and start spraying people… blast a couple rubber bullets into people see how that goes. what has the city come to it was bad enough with kids killing kids but now they will relly feel like they are un stoppable.
every one that has been arrested and involved should be made an example of.
sick of these wasters giving there sob stories about times are hard and this and that.
2 types of people
the ones that have it hard and do some thing about the right way
and the ones that feel every one owes them some thing sorry the violin aint coming out today.
this is the city we live in just shows how much people care for there own communities. i look forward to seeing who’s going to be paying that clean up bill and can have a good guess at who it will be.
Beginning to wonder whether I should ride to work to park my bike in the secure underground parking … or if that in itself is putting myself in the line of fire?
Not every expression of political unrest or general unhappiness is preambled by banners and political slogans.
While you may point to them and say, oh they are poor, they never had a job anyway…aren’t they the ones MOST reliant upon council and social welfare services…the same services that are taking a hit from the financial situation? No-one is free from the hardships being created.
I am not even sure if THAT is the issue which has lead to the problems, it is just one of many in my opinion which could all be the reason, which I am not saying I know. I am saying that to pass it off as mindless violence, just seems, as I said earlier, to be a cop out, to be a desire to ignore the problems of our society and pretend that this is entirely normal behaviour and that having hundreds of people destroying their own community is merely mindless violence.
We know that cause it happens every weekend…no wait, we haven’t seen anything like it for years, or even decades really.
Yet stay calm, don’t panic, there is no reason for it, and no reason to change anything, because it is just mindless thugs.
Understanding the situation surely must help in forestalling a repeat of it?
If we allow our heads to be firmly placed in the sand, the Councillor from Croydon this evening on the radio repeated the phrase “mindless thugs” at least 7 times, I was wondering who he was trying to convince, the listeners or himself, then we can expect a repeat of these events over the next few years as the financial crisis actually starts to bite more and more.
To me this had little to do with Duggan, and it isn’t about “tensions” between some parts of the community and the police, it feels more for me like a society that has been squeezed for a long time, and the young and brash were simply the first to burst.
To then brand them mindless thugs and try and brush it under the carpet is just to ignore what has caused the problem, and that fails to fix it.
I won’t bother going into the niceties of why this started, or if it is because some scrote who’s never had/never will have a job feels he’s been hard done by etc… I won’t, simply because certain parties will argue back and forth about what is said, and eventually it alls gets a little annoying to be honest.
What I will say is that regardless of why it started, or who’s to blame, or what will happen now, people have to understand that what is actually happening, (and I’m talking about looting of buisnesses and destruction of property on a grand scale), it is fundamentally wrong!
It’s not just teenagers out there, wearing hoodies etc… There is actual footage being shown of adults (male and female) out on the streets, looking around to see if they are being watched, and then walking into stores and taking clothes, electrical goods and anything else they can get their grubby hands on! Grown adults, some with their own children, setting fire to peoples vehicles and shops!
There is one thing that I want to point out. And that is, that every person who is out there, just like us watching, knows the difference between right and wrong! WHAT IS GOING ON IS WRONG!!!
Anybody who is out there taking part, and anybody who condones or makes excuses as to why this has happened needs to seriously look at their moral compass!
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR WHAT THESE ANIMALS ARE DOING! THEY ARE DESTROYING PEOPLES HOMES AND LIVELIHOODS! AND ANYBODY WHO SIDES WITH THEM, OR MAKES EXCUSES FOR THEM SHOULD THINK HOW THEY WOULD FEEL IN THE SAME SITUATION!
I’m not going to say any more on the subject. But some people on here need to have a good hard think about how they would feel if they were the victims of this scum!
Lastly, before anybody slates how the emergency services have dealt with this, please understand that we are absolutely balls deep in it out there, and it’s easy to criticise when you’re not dodging bricks, bottles and petrol bombs!
Tonight, I’m even more proud to be a part of the Metropolitan Police Service, and my hat is doffed to all those who have been out there these last three nights. Truly brave and proffessional individuals, every one of them.
You mean all those people who have lost their livelihoods and homes due to say…a huge financial crisis which was completely out of their control.
Yeah, I can imagine they are quite pissed, though of course they won’t get the relief of watching the people responsible pay for it through our justice system, they have to suffer while those responsible continue to get huge bonuses and live on massive pay cheques.
For the record, I have not seen anyone argue that it isn’t wrong or that there is any excuse for it.
Though I don’t expect reality to ruin your tirade.
