Following on from a post I made in the ‘Are Sportsbikes Dead?’ topic, I was doing some digging on European bike sales figures, and…

In Italy in 2010 (Italy accounted for almost half of all bike sales in the EU in 2010), the Top-100 bikes were:

Although a few years old, I doubt much has changed in terms of the types of bikes the Italians like, and Nakeds and Adventures dominate.

All change last year (2013) when France overtook Italy in terms of being the biggest country for bike sales. Figures as follows:

Interesting, I think that BMW sold around 750 1200GS last year in the UK (from MSN) if memory serves.

Nice to see Kawasaki shifting some bikes - they have made a real comeback after a lacklustre period in the late 90’s early 2000’s when they were falling behind the other big manufacturers - mainly because of not enough new designs and the ZX9R and 6R being a bit off the pace in looks and performance compared to rivals.

They turned things around about mid decade with the tasty looking B1H, 636 and ZX10R, plus funky looking street bikes like the Z1000/750 versys and the super fast ZX12R and great looking 1400.

The styling department at Kawasaki seem to have particularly benefited from new talent/a massive kick up the arse - they went from producing some pretty bland looking bikes (with the exception of the ZX7R) to some real stunners.

the sales for europe have all always been very different from Britain…I remember seeing somewhere that Britain by far has the largest sportsbike sales.
