I am partaking in the welsh road rally in a few weeks time. Wanting to take more than just a toothbrush I have hired a Honda Pan European for the weekend. It comes with fitted side paniers. My wife wants a top box as well so she doesn’t feel like she’s going to fall off the back (I guess she is planning to sleep…)
Can anyone recommend a quality box that will fit to the Honda base plate?

Be careful…
If it’s the new ST1300 Pan I believe there are issues if you have panniers and a top box at the same time… I’ll dig out the info but it relates to a “weave” problem that has been pretty high profile…

Anyway… From what I understand from Pan riding mates the recomendation is not to have a top box on the 1300… whether that’s a weight issue or an aerodynamic one I don’t know, but I hope to speak to someone tonight who may know more on this…
Do you really want to buy a top box for a bike you’ve hired for a weekend? Can the place you hired it from not supply one - for hire?
Alternatively try strapping a bag to the back, might offer a measure of security…

With the weekend being penned as a relaxed weekend tour of the Welsh valley’s, I hope I don’t encounter the 110mph weave 
We don’t really need the box for storage but rather as a back support for my wife. The cost of buying a box doesn’t phase me. I have one for the car which spends 51 weeks of the year in the garage. We are looking at buying a touring bike which is why were renting the honda to give it a proper road test. We’ll be renting a BMW later in the year for the British rally so will hopefully get reuse of the box…
MY question is really are there any brands that should be avoided or is there little to distinguish?
I’ve always used Givi and had no comlpaints. They should be useable on other bikes too with the right mounting kit. Wether or not it’ll fit on the pan without an adapter kit I don’t know but if oyu have a local supplier then you could talk to them, they should be able to advise.
Alternatively a honda box would be guranteed to fit but wether or not it’d be adaptable to other bikes I don’t know.
Don’t know of any makes that have had particularly bad press though.
