Tomtom Rider Pro

Anybody got one?

Opinions, does the bluetooth headset thing work at speed? Does it do a good job of keeping signal?

I hear the scala headset can play music too, is that right? Not sure I’d want to listen to music on the bike but I’d be interested to know how that works.

I’ve seen some good deals on them, in fact the prices seem to vary so much that I’m wondering if they’re even the same from one shop to the next!

I’ve had my Rider Pro about 2 weeks and hearing the directions via the headset at speed is fine for me, even with ear plugs in. it auto ramps the volume the faster you go
It’s fairly quick in rerouting if you miss a junction and worked a treat when I asked it to find a different route through London when the A5 was gridlocked so much that you couldn’t ride a panniered bike down the middle.
Battery life lasts about 6-7 hours of constant use I think, well it lasted a whole day riding on the weekends trip to Cumbria. I’d probably wouldn’t have it on all the time, as I’d like to think I can find the way to most places in the UK and then switch it on when you get nearer to actually locate the destination.
Also be careful if you choose shortest route or winding roads, you might be ending up some single track roads covered in gravel and that’s not one of the Jetstream rideouts

Can’t vouch for the music, but I’d guess it wont give much bass via the speakers.

Only downside so far, is that the current TomTom Home software wont let you plan routes on a Mac or PC… fook knows why!

But download Tyre http://www.janboersma.nl/gett and you’ll be fine - unless you’re on a Mac like me, but I’ve been using Tyre via http://www.virtualbox.org/ running Windows 7, which all Mac’s in the past +5 years can run or you can use this site http://eelcov.home.xs4all.nl/itgen/ to create waypoints, save them to a text file then add .itn to the name before loading onto the TomTom.

Good bit of kit. I play the radio on mine and it is ok and easy to use. I have never plugged in the ipod yet. Defo recommend it!
