To plug or not to plug

Hi all,

A few days after putting a new Roadmaster on the back, I was unlucky enough to go over a woodscrew, which lodged itself in my brand new rubber.

Luckily, although it was embedded about 10 mm deep in the tyre, it went in at an angle and so has not punctured the tyre, although it did leave a ‘scar’ where it went in.

However, I am now a bit worried about whether this may have damaged the integrity of the tyre and this may play on my mind when going down the fast lane at 80!

Has anyone had a similar issue? I was thinking of taking it back to the tyre shop and getting them to finish off the job the screw started and then put a plug in, but then again, maybe if it hasn’t punctured it, it’ll be ok?

keep an eye on the tyre pressure… you may have a slow puncture… if its worrying you that much take it to one of the well praised tyre places (FWR, Essential Rubber)

im sure they can have a look and give you better advice than anyone sitting behind a keyboard

Well, that’s very good advice Pan. I mean it

thanks mate

Thanks for your replies…it makes sense to just take it back to the guys who fitted it (Feltham Tyres) and see what they say. I can’t afford another one this month tho!

Oh, obviously the tyre in question is a Roadsmart, not Roadmaster!

if its in the center 3rd or the tyre… plug…

i worked in a bike tyre shop for some time and have used 2 plugs at a time without any problem.

just get a good shop to fit the plug…
