TL1000R ?

Anybody out there own or have owned a TL1000R ?

I am considering looking at one for this year but know little about them apart from the usual " stories " surrounding the S models happy slapping antics ( usually told by people who have not owned them !! )

I have had a Mille before and was wondering if I can expect much the same experience or whether there are any pro’s or cons to look out for ??

Looking at the yellow colour scheme rather than the traditional Blue/White to keep the KTM company in glorious technicolour !!!

cheers ,

MM

the simple answer is no chance…buy another mille

The weak point is the rear shock. It overheats pretty much straight away…and then the handling is pretty much ‘barge’ like. If you can find one with an after market shock fitted where they have a plate to move the shock to a more normal position then bobs your uncle, if not then I know I wouldnt

and to be predictable…buy a Buell

ps never had one, but have a few friends with them.

Havent had one personally . . . really REALLY want one tho . . .

My mates got a TLS . . . he’s had it years, from new and he adores it.

I know the rear shock is supposed to be " suspect " at best . Will probably be looking at sorting a " saggy arse " if needed . The Mille was ok just didn’t connect with it and cost " Liberias national debt " to have serviced !!

Cheers for response tho’

I’ve owned 2 TLRs.

Out the box, the Mille will handle much better. As has been said the suspension on the TLR needs some work, usually a aftermarket shock and as a minimum change the oil in the forks (and drop them 7mm). An aftermarket steering damper also makes a vast difference (or change the oil in the std unit). These mods will have it handling more like a Mille. Lighter wheels are the cherry on the cake

The motor is exceptional! However, the timing retard in the first few gears of all FI Suzukis is especially noticeable on the big twins, but can be sorted out with a Yosh box map (about £30) and a TRE (also about £30).

The only bad thing I have to say about TL’s is that they respond very well to mods, which becomes addictive very quickly, and can be very expensive.

The TLR’s were awesome fun to ride and work on, and TL owners are a cool bunch of people - check out tlzone.net .

One of my all time fav bikes.

Forgot too add…fit Michelin Pilot Power 2CT tyres too. My friend said this was the best thing hes ever fitted on his TL

hello mate if you have had a milie before dont get a tlR,they are heavier, dont turn as well at speed, they are cheaper but that is because they are not as good.
i have had an rsv-r in 02 and have ridden a tl1000r as a mate had on at the same time i had my millie,so we swapped bikes out on a ride once i hated it and he loved the millie,he sold it and bought a millie.

Fridyman is spot on but another niffty mod is add a tooth or 2 to the rear sprocket, as it will really liven the bike up.
