this is really something wrong with this country

don’t see what he done wrong… Other than get caught that is

Erm he was speeding, that’s what he done wrong. Ok all done it, but we know it’s wrong so don’t expect to get away with it. No point arguing the rights and wrong of the law, it’ll only wind you up. Just find ways round it

On the flipside there’s a clip of a car driver doing 130 and only got 8 months. Now that’s wrong, one rule for one, and looking at the video it looked a damn site more dangerous than the bike

I can’t see the video on my work computer :frowning: but from the descirption it says there was a chase… as far as I’m aware trying to speed away from the police is ‘wrong’.

I know speed is an issue on here that some see no problem in and others do, so I won’t go into that one.

He didn’t actually seem to be going that fast. He should come out for a ride with us sometime.

+1

Didnt look that bad - Think he only passed 1 car - who was more spooked by the police car Im guessing?

But Jail? (WRONG. He could lose his job! family etc…)
From what I hear, theyre overcrowded as they are - fines & points would have been sufficient? Hurt him in the pocket.

There are plenty of people worthy of sentences - and I feel circumstances like this should be re-reviewed…

Agree, jail sentence isn’t necessary. A ban and fines would be, ok so could still lose your job without a license and better than having a jail sentence on your record

banning people is complete stupidity, they then drive ride illegally, what should be introduced is re-training, an away course for a week or so, which he must pass or he will stay on until he does…

Jail for speeders is pure nuts…its the law going mad…

We should also introduce a more sensible speed limit…some roads are safe at almost any speed, some are not…

Try doing 70mph on a congested motorway…try doing 70 on an empty one,and yes you do get them empty…

The government along with the police are unable to stop real hardened criminals so they are using the speeders as a method of increasing the crime stats and for filling up the already overcrowded prisons…

Putting a decent generally law abiding speeder in jail and ruining his life does not help society…

Finally dont give me the speeding kills isue that is long gone, shame the police dont believe the stats, shame the police dont believe that cameras cause accidents even though they do…shame we dont have sensible policing and government anymore…but hopefully one day we will…

Off soap box now…

I think this chap was banned, so no insurance, no tax, no license, refused to stop for police, drove dangerously etc, probably not his first time doing it either so I guess that’s what he went inside for.

I would bet £10 that the BBC ignored all that and just said he was speeding therefore contributing to mmgw so therefore he is satan incarnate and deserves the suffer :w00t:

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Christopher-ODonovan-Of-Devizes-Jailed-For-130mph-Motorbike-Chase/Article/200808215075555

O’Donovan pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving while disqualified and has been told to expect a prison sentence.

good to see the BBC left out that part …knobs

I too can’t see the video on my work PC, but if indeed this guy did refuse to stop for the police and then embarked on a high-speed chase on A-roads, endangering lives in the process, then of course he should be jailed. There is absolutely no argument to the contrary.

Jailing him should not only teach him a lesson, but more to the point, it would serve as a deterrent to others who are inclined to do the same thing. These idiots kill innocent people. I can’t imagine anyone who disagrees with the sentance to maintain that opinion if one of their own family were killed or seriously injured by one of these idiots.

Most of us speed to various degrees on our bikes (and believe me, I’m no innocent here), what I am referring to here is this guy’s refusal to stop for the police and trying to outrun them.

in the light of the new information… What is wrong with the BBC?
They should more point out the harsh penalty for anyone driving while disqualified and therefore uninsured and leave the speeding out of the equation as per the original idea from this post that if done safely, speeding should not end up with a jail sentence…
Unless you are polish and riding a red 675 that is:)

Total poppycock, if jail worked as a deterrent why are there 84,000 plus prisoners in jail and rising, why are they building more prisons because they are all full. He will leave prison with a ban and then ride his bike illegally as soon as he can again…it will not work, Jail just ruins people lives and turns more people to real crime than poverty and or circumstances…there are better ways…

Hi 2strokes, we’ve not met but I remember reading about your accident, I was shocked by that but I hope you are making a speedy recovery. My post referred purely to the fact that the guy apparently failed to stop when asked to do so by the police. As police officers are the ones that prevent society from slipping into anarchy, which would be in no-one’s interests, I think there does need to be a strong incentive in place to encourage people to obey a police request to stop a vehicle, like not going to prison. I don’t think a re-training course or slap on the wrist would address that. What would you do with someone who failed to stop for the police, in order to ensure that he/she, and others, would not do the same again?
