this is meant to deter speeding..??

Sick Brunstrom parades headless biker

North Wales Police has unveiled photographs of a decapitated biker in its latest anti-speeding campaign.

The image showed the man’s head with his eyes still open lying on a grass verge. In another shot the torso is embedded into a car.

North Wales Police Chief Superintendent Geraint Anwyl said the head was torn off by the force of the impact, he explained: “His oxygenated brain went flying down the road for 50 metres, before he expired. It’s horrific, I’m sure you’ll agree.”

The gruesome images were shown to journalists and local authority representatives at a meeting to promote the road safety work of North Wales Police.

North Wales Police Chief Richard Brunstrom said excessive speed caused the accident. Brunstrom said: “We did it to serve a purpose. The images are there to make an impact today.”

However, Brunstrom also confirmed that the families of the dead men were not aware the images were being used in the presentation. The identities of the victims were not given however the details of a distinctive T-shirt worn by the motorcyclist was shown with the slogan: “Piss off and catch some real criminals”.

Brunstrom promised that the next phase of the campaign would be softer edged with more education and less punishment.

Hope he gets in trouble for not having permission from families.

That Tshirt appears to have tempted fate too much though.

Tragic. But they’ve got to get through some people. Most of us are responsible enough to know what is and isn’t safe riding, but clearly there’s some out there who don’t and end up being a statistic, or material for campaigns like this. Bit naughty not to ask permission though.

I have to be honest, and I know I might get some backs up here, but the guy had embedded himself in a car…so clearly he wasn’t completely innocent. I don’t know the circumstances any more than the next person, but to embed yourself in car takes a hell of a lot more speed than the average speed limit allows I’d guess.

I agree the copper’s an insensitive moron who’s gone way beyond his jurisdiction and deserves some serious reprimanding for this, but also let’s be honest. His actions have raised a point for us to discuss, and there ARE some dangerous bikers out there (whom I 'm fully expecting to flame me for beiong a nancy, a softy or whatever, just cos I don’t wheelie away from every light I pull up at…so be it.) but we’re not all perfect little angels, and sometimes bikers can be a danger to themselves and others.

How does a copper address that situation cos as a biker that know’s a lot of bikers, I know there are plenty of us out there who are choosing to ignore this.

Hands up anyone who knows a biker who will break the speed limit today…be honest

Hands up anyone on here who knows a biker that will pull a wheelie today on a street in a built up area.

Not really safe, but I’ll bet none of us would pull over the biker we saw do it and give him an earful about road safety…we might even think “Go on mate, well done!”, so with that attitude from us…the community minded bunch…how are coppers supposed to deal with the dangerous riders…the genuinely dangerous riders…?

I have no problem with motorcyclists being the subject of police road safety drives. There are a lot of muppets that put the lives of others in danger when they jump on a bike. Those people, who treat their duty of care to other member s of the public with total disregard, should not be allowed to ride full stop. As it happens I don’t actually think shock tactics work for that sort of person. We don’t know the circumstance of this crash and what this person did to crash as badly as he obviously did (MCN journalism from what I’ve seen is often sensationalist, misleading and biased), so no comment on him…

HOWEVER

…using pictures of a person that has died horrifically without even the permission of the NoK is appalling. Anyone here remember what was said about al’ Jazeera when they aired the footage of our dead soldiers in the opening stages of the Iraq war. Brunstorm appears, if this journalism is to be believed, to be fully aware of the situation and has given it his blessing. For that he should be out of a job…

Edited: counted to 10, rant over…

Fair enough doing a bit of trying to educate people, but this pr!ck has gone way over the line. I know he should be more responsible, especially being in his position, but history and the crap he has come out before shows there is no chance.

It’s about time he was sacked

i just feel real sorry for the family when they find out there loved one has been used without there permission by that sick prat.but as we have seen b 4 nothing will happen to him

It’s disgusting that he thinks he can get away with doing things like this without the permission of the family. I really hope something happens about it.

I also noticed that the MCN article fails to mention that the rider involved didn’t have a license and was uninsured…a minor oversight by MCN perhaps or just the usual one-sided article they print?

Brunstrom is an absolute F*cking Ar$ehole!!!

He should have been sacked ages ago - his whole attitude to biking stinks - worse than Clarkson in that he can actually get away with this behaviour, in a senior role as a law enforcer.

There are many website dedicated to identifying why Brunstrom is such a Pr!ck - google his name and you’ll be amazed at the statements he has made in the past

Try this for for starters… http://www.abd.org.uk/brunstrom.htm

If the pics were only intended for the journalists and local authority reps to see, I don’t get it!? Shocking them won’t slow bikers down. However if they were meant to be passed on to Jo Public via the press and local campaigns, this is WAY over the mark! What if this biker had children who will see this in the press? How would we feel if we saw our partners decapitated head in the press?

totaly agree with u steve!!! the poor family!! wat effect that would have on them!!

Is it really about speed?

The guy cut a corner and didnt see a car coming the other way because it was in a dip, a head on like that is going to be nasty at the NSL.

Strikes me that speed was not really the major factor.

Speed doesn’t kill. Inappropriate speed does.

Brunstrom has always courted controversy, but has way overstepped the mark this time. This bloke needs his ego winding in and the pips removed from his shoulders.

I am totally in favour of shock tactics in safety campaigns as it can help to drive home certain points, and can often grab ones attention more effectively than soft campaigns. HOWEVER, using this distinctive example without the specific permission of the relatives is unprofessional, insensitive and disrespectful

I can’t help but wonder if he would have used those images if it was a member of his own family who had died so tragically.

I agree with shock tactics combating the right thing. We have all been to bike shows and meets where plod turn up with a destroyed bike. How many of us slow down because of seeing this? I have seen bad accidents too. The fact that these particular pictures were used is a real touchy subject.

Permission should be gained by anyone wishing to use any pictures publicly, but as we see in the papers everyday this is not the case.

Brunstrom has always been a bit of a prick

Lets just say that after uni I temped for a few police organisations and some of the people at the top are obtuse beyond belief

and he is quite simply arrogant, however his arrogance has given way to complete stupidity this time

I think he should just leave quietly

Everyone knows that speed kills but his tactic is waayyy over the top and from what I gather stems from a despise of bikers (perhaps his wife wont let him ride one)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6600995.stm

He doesn’t even seem to get the point…all of his defence is about people being told they were going to dsee harrowing images…he’s completely shirked the point that he didn’t ask permission.

We await with eager his resignation…which is probably never going to happen

RIP that rider anyway, and condolences to the family.
