…it’s a bargain but trouble is I think a white or mostly white helmet is safer. The black lid is top of the range and they don’t do it in white or graphics at this price. However, for the same price I can get the next lid down in the range in white. So Should I worry or just go ahead and buy the black one before someone else snaps it up?
The rest of you obviously have no regard for my safety ;). Is no one going to err on the side of caution and recommend the white lid? BTW generally I don’t wear a Hi-Viz in town though I probably should. Errr…my bike is white though…
is a white lid reallly going to make that much difference. if they dont see a white bike, headlight and rider its not going to make much difference what colour lid you have.
if you’re that conscious about being seen, pick up a hi vis vest for pence and wear that in town
A white lid does make a difference, especially at night and especially if you are wearing all black clothing. I suppose what I’m getting at is this… does the safety benefits of a better quality/ higher grade lid outweigh the benefits of it’s colour scheme?
tbh i dont think colour of a lid makes much difference if you’re not riding in a manner to make yourself more visible, id go for the better one, and in london i really cant see it helping at all what with all the lunatics, nutters, etc etc on the road
I’ve owned a silver lid because i thought it would be safer but then i realised that i noticed oncoming bikers by one thing, the headlight. At that distance all they are is a light, u can barely make out if its a fireblade or c90 lol. I’d say always go for the best lid you can, don’t bother going for a worse lid just because it’s white.
I have worn different colour helmets and commuted for years. To be honest I have not noticed any difference. I know it’s the highest point of the bike etc but it’s tiny. Buy the helmet that fits you best and an hi viz or some stickers
If you haven’t already, go for black cos its cool. Word of warning though, if you intend travelling anywhere hot, like the south of France, riding around in a black lid for a good while in blazing sunshine is a killer, it’ll cook your head…thats what happened to me a few years ago, riding 350 mles the next day after a night of heat stroke induced puking wasn’t fun…!
The great source of knowledge that is Q.I. explained once that this whole thing about black clothing absorbs hear and white reflects is a myth…
On topic, I’ve never had much belief that the colour of my helmet is going to save me. If they’re not observent enough to notice me (6’3) on a Varadero, they wont notice a shiny white or yellow helmet. As has been said, a lot of the time you don’t see anything more of a bike than it’s front headlight.
