OK, i went to Farnborough yesterday and noticed that my right fork had oil on it and the right side of my wheel was like dark grey covered in oil. I wiped off the oil, and pressed down my ford and it looked like it covered the fork in grease again. BUT, also my right brake caliper is covered in grease, or it was shiny. So it could be that.
My breaking is a bit funny, but the fluid indicator hasn’t gone down, and my bike feels like its riding rough. But that could jus be placebo, cuz I dint notice that till now. Ne ideas? And how difficult is it to replace a fork seal?
I also think my brake fluid is leaking, in fact I know its leaking, the fluid has gone down and my tyre is covered in oil, as well as the right hand side of my dash board, in fact the right hand side of my bike, so it must be the brake resorvoir leaking somehow, anyway im taking it to the garage later, hopefully i wont run out of brake fluid by the time i get there
When you last changed your brake fluid did you change the washers top and bottom? They’re only cheap. If you can bleed the brakes and change the washers then see if you lose more fluid. Of course if it’s a new ride take it back to the shop and shout…
If you’re not sure about how get a pro/ someone you trust to do it / help - no point in taking chances if you suspect your brakes are fooked as the time you find out for sure may be to late…
ok, it’s a second hand bike I just bought from a dealer, but when I checked the cap to see if it was that was leaking I do not recall seeing a washer, so that’s probably the problem, as it only leaks when its leaning on the side stand, the place where I bought it from is 20 miles away, so no point going all that way if i just need a missing washer, however if my brake pads are fooked i will be making an appearance, im gonna take it to the shop near me today and get it sorted
Hey dude the washers are on the banjo bolts (see pics) as they connect to the brake lines and calipers (they are copper ones - nice and soft to create a good seal when working properly) At the end the day as the fluid is pressure driven the fluid will be driven out through any weakness.
As it’s new to you it’s worth striping the brakesystem down or get someone to do it for you to check the seals in the calipers and generally everything is tight and nothing has worked loose. (I’d do it for peace of mind)
As the fluid is leaking you’ll need to change it as the fluid is affected by moisture so once it’s open to the atmosphere it’s no good.
Brakes are not worth making do with - especially on mean looking gixers…
