My mate has just bought another CBR and as he’s (a bit of a nerd) the type to have matching leathers, he asked my opinion on these ebay jobbies. They don’t seem to have a brand name which is a worry to me, but is there any way to determine their quality otherwise? What should be asked of the seller besides whether the armour is CE approved?
Doesn’t really tell you too much about them from what I can see. Hard to tell from the pics what the wuality is like. What you really need to look fir is at least double stitching. The leather should cover over the zips so that they don’t heat up in a slide crash and burn you. Is the armour CE approved?
Can’t say I have seen any club racers wearing them, I don’t know anyone with any, personally, I wouldn’t touch them until I knew more about them.
They look like the fake jackets they sell in those leather jacket shops in Camden etc. I wouldn’t buy one, I’d rather get a 2nd hand one for the same money or buy one from a reputable shop/site.
If he buys them i would get him to buy upgrade armour from a bike shop - then pay wasp to go over the stitching to make it to the same quality as proper bike gear!
I’ve convinced him to get some Hein Gericke PSX-R leathers as they were being heavily discounted a while back as I believe they are end of line.
I can attest to their durability also, having crash tested them at Snetterton, Mallory and Donington a couple of years ago in some pretty big slides.
Told my mate, all is not lost with the Honda look leathers…Like you rightly suggest, WASP does some good leather work and he can just buy some cheap CBR patches off ebay that she can sew in.
