Right, this was first posted up by LB member Gsxr rocker (well done, good find!) somewhere in another thread a while back.
I think its such an innovative idea that I wanted to give it its very own thread to make people aware of it, 'cos the original post has got a little lost now.
What I really like about it (and its main advantage and difference to other ground anchors) is the fact that its concealed sub-surface, making it less prone to attack. I’ve always thought the bolt-down types were crap. Better than nothing, but generally still crap.
Used in conjunction with an Almax chain, theiving scum will have to use more than bolt croppers to get yer pride n joy, and, in attempting to do so, will have to make much more noise than they’re willing to if they really want to release the bike from its shackle.
Personally, I’d like to see them made a little longer so it could be sunk deeper into the ground. But as it is, I would just sink it in deeper, fill in with concrete but (obviously) keeping the holes clear (remembering to thread the chain through the anchor BEFORE installation). This probably means yer Almax stays put at home, but they’re not really that portable anyway, so shouldn’t be a problem for most.
couple of things though, measure yer almax to make sure it will fit through etc, also i reckon any decent engineer place or maybe iron works etc will be able to knock summat similar up to you spec. Good bit of square tubing etc cut at angle welded together with extra bits at bottoom. easy enough for the right person to knock summat up even more hardy.
Is there any reasonable risk of your wheel being removed and your bike stolen if you lock your wheel instead of your frame (which is almost impossible).
If so, which would be most secure? front or back wheel?
It does happen. A guy I work with had a Vespa stolen with the front wheel chained to a post. When he went back to the bike the wheel was still chained to the post but the rest of the bike was gone.
Im going to be putting the chain through the swing arm and rear wheel, front wheel will have a disk lock but if someone wants the front wheel thats not gonna stop em nicking it but at least I should have the rest of my bike on my driveway
