So how much did you pay in the end Hero, if you don’t mind me asking, was it from Helmet City?
I want one of these but it’ll have to wait till the end of the year, although I can’t decide on the paint schemes they do, I fancy a blue and white one but not entirely sure I like the designs, although maybe they look better in the flesh… :ermm:
i got the lid from helmetcity for 270…which was a bit more than my budget of low 200’s, but for that price you only get the plain colours and the matt black didnt look very good. Helmetcity have pretty much every single colour of the XR1000 on display and gettin a plain colour didnt do justice to a very nice helmet!
also check what lid you buy as somewhere along the line of XR1000’s shoei tried to get smart and instead of having a push button to stop the strap flapping about, they had a strange clip that attached to the D-D Ring…which is very fiddly to clip on even without gloves on! shoei then found out it was a bit naff and switched back to standard push buttons in their new colour schemes though.
i must have been deciding on colour for about an hour or two before i finally chose a lid…i dont like a lot of the shoei colour schemes to be honest as many are a bit “medival” looking and i didnt want strange animals or skulls on my lid!! it is best to see your lid in flesh though as smaller detail etc will be missed out on photo’s [mine sparks up these multicolour tribal graphics under light that you wouldnt usually see!]
i find my xr1000 can get a bit draughty at higher speeds, i get a small draft across the inside of the visor which irritates my contact lenses it dont happen all the time just enough to be annoying sometimes.
I know what you mean, that’s why I’m undecided about which one to go for, this is the one I’m liking the most, either in blue or black… :ermm:
XR1000 Caster - TC2 Blue
ah i remember seeing this one at helmetcity! its a nice looking lid, new for 2008 i think!
it looks pretty good in the flesh [i personally didnt want a blue lid so gave it a miss]…the blue in the lid is slightly darker than the old suzuki blue [like that on your bike] but im sure when you check it out you can see for yourself if it suits you+the bike!
danno…i havent felt a draught coming through the front of the visor but the forehead vents are a bit too good in ventilation [good thing the xr1000 has a half-open click on them as they can get cold at higher speed]
one wierd thing i noticed is a slight whistling noise that only occurs when my mouth is open…slightly wierd as i didnt have that in my old lid [but you can make strange sound effects in your lid with the noise too!]
Nice lid, I really like that scheme … I don’t know how they justify the extra money for a design. I always have plain lids as the extra money is not going into safety - it’s still a £200 crash helmet whether it has a design on it or not. Anyone know how say HJC can put a design on a £70 lid but Shoei charge £70 extra for it? Bonkers.
I compared my old XR1000 with my new one (which has subsequently been nicked) and the new one had less of a quality feel to it - the strap felt thinner to start with… plus the popper idea is in my opinion a retrograde step (the popper is through a load bearing part of the strap) & does not look up to the longevity I expect from a shoei lid. If anyone knows anywhere with some old “inferior” stock, let me know because I’m in no rush to buy a brand new XR1000 with the thin feeling strap & popper. Since the theft I’m back to using my old one that I’ve had for 3 years and 70,000 odd miles smells kinda musty now though :hehe:
very nice lid mate, good design too
i have the clip strap retention thingy and dont have a problem with it, just takes a bit of practice maybe
as others have said i would prefer a stronger strap than one with a bubble/pop/button thingy stitched into it
Hero Honda - I think I saw you in South London the other morning - you are the first person I’ve seen with the same helmet as me! I was on the Aprilia Tuono.
I’ve actually just ordered a Medium size one. I’ve had Shoei’s for years and always taken large. I decided to buy a new lid at the beginning of the year and I had to wait ages for this paint job to arrive.
I had tried a large before I bought it but after about a month of use I’ve decided it’s a fraction too big for me. I’ve since found out that the Medium uses a slightly smaller shell size and I’m now a medium! It’s a great helmet, very light with good ventilation, the paint job is really stunning, but subtle (just like me :D).
SO , I’ve got a month old, as new, never dropped or bashed, LARGE version of this lid (XR-1000 Voyager black) for sale. I paid £297 for it but I would take £200 for it. Please leave a message here or PM me if anyone is interested. (Hero Honda - I really hope you don’t take a large size…:crying:)
These are the people I bought it from http://www.gearchangeonline.com/product_list.php?id=168
Kickstart, sent you a pm…
biggus, your point about the cost of adding colour is quite right, and i suppose i wouldnt value my colour scheme at £70 extra, but i’d still say its a very nice and high quality looking design and spending a few more £ now, for a nice looking product i think is okay! [i plan to keep this lid for quite a while now]
also i thought the little plastic pop buttons at the end to stop your lid flapping were good, no? i dont understand how it is load bearing, as it has nothing to do with the actual retention…only thing i can see is maybe in a long time the button gets a bit looser or something.[thats probaby why shoei had the D-D Clip brought in for a while]
my old nolan helmet’s strap wasnt too good [im sure it stretched like an inch during the course of me using it], so i dont have much to compare this lid to but i think the shoei’s holds well and quite safe!
ah kickstart…you know what i remeber seeing your lid before i got mine, and i thought it looked good out in the open so that was another reason why i got it! i have seen u down by kennington, didnt know you were a LB-er though! and yeah you’re right…from far it looks quite bold and normal, and up close and especially in light its got a very intricate and nice deisgn too…best of both!
I knew I had good taste!
Bought one yesterday in matt black - 100x better than my old lid and the pinlock system really works. Got a free tinted pinlock which I’m really impressed with as well.
Not had any probs with my XR1000 - still looks good! I paid £280 from Racevisors.com and got a pinlock system and tinted visor for free.
yeah pinlock is so good, every helmet should come with it.
on the pinlock website they are doing a much larger pinlock screen for arai’s which should be out in shops soon!
arai rx7 all the way thats what i have and a arai cignet gt
