As to pretentious words in your predictive text- is it not just regurgitating the pretentious words you have used previously that it’s then stored in its memory banks in order to later remind you of how pretentious you are and thus reinforce your brand loyalty to pretentious phones such as the one you are using and indeed to pretension in general?
Anyway, when are we going to get predictive text on this forum, eh?
It is a cheap alternative to Sat Nav, but it is a pretentious gadget. I am not really a big fan of apple products generally, I don’t want to buy a lifestyle, I just want to buy something that works.
i used apple macs for about 8 yrs, up until a yr and half ago.i was equally fluent on pc and/or macs, but i just dont get everyones obsession with them.
When a mac crashes it crashes badly, they can get viruses and theyre not easier to use! oh, and they cant use proper grown up programs such as Autocad and 3dS Max
all you apple hugging hippes out there are sheep going along with the flowBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA actually, we should do a vote. how many people who previously owned an iphone 3GS, have recently, or its their ambition to “upgrade” to the iphone 4? :w00t:
I have to say I’m definitely one of Apple’s loyal customers.
I had PCs all my life, even studying IT at college, but after buying my MacBook Pro I would never buy a PC again. I really don’t see any advantage for them other than gaming.
Needless to say I have an iPhone 4 and again I’d struggle to go back to any other manufacturer after using an iPhone for so long (I have had one since 3g came out).
I guess I fit into the description of fanboy and proud of it too…
PC: Oh a new graphics or sound device…great I will buy it and slot it straight in, thus improving the machine I have for a relatively small cost.
Mac: Oh a new graphics or sound device…great, I will just wait until Apple decides to bring out a new machine, probably 3 or 4 months down the line, and then i can get rid of the machine I have and buy an entirely new machine at great cost, just for that upgrade
It is the main reason I have always used PCs over Macs.
Well I’ve had my laptop for nearly 4 years, and although it was marginally more expensive than a comparable pc laptop (a Sony Vaio with similar spec was about the same in price) it was way ahead of most things on the market in terms of spec. I have decent graphics and sound and see no reason I would want to upgrade them.
I think that’s the key point for most mac users. We want the best of the best (within reason) at the time of buying and don’t want to have to worry about the product being obsolete in 6 months like most PCs. We don’t want to worry about buying a sound card or a graphics card every year. We just want to buy something that is good enough to last. Something that works and does the job you bought it for. The only thing I have had to buy because it fell behind is a new operating system, when my iPhone 4 didn’t work with the old one. I’d had the old one for over 3 and a half years and the new one cost me £25. Not bad really.
but by saying that youve mentioned quite a big point.
pc’s can be upgraded, which makes them up to date with the most current technology as and when its available. whereas, mac users keep them a yr or two, then bin them and buy a new one…
im not saying macs cannot be upgraded, they can, but the average user chucks them away and gets the new model when it comes out…
Thing is though Clancey that attitude is what I don’t like about Apple.
I don’t want to think, I want Apple to think for me.
Choose my telephone provider, because i obviously lack the knowledge or intelligence to choose the best telephone package for myself. Choose the components of my Mac because I don’t want to have to make a decision for myself as to what is the best graphics card at a given time.
Apple users seem to abdicate choices to Apple as if they couldn’t decide these things for themselves.
Then act like this is a good thing. That not having to choose, not having to understand or know about the technology you rely on every single day is a good thing, cause you got so much better things to do and know about and your brain capacity can only contain so much information, probably because you are so young and trendy that the advertising, graphic design or media job you are in has filled your tiny tiny mind!
if anyone is also familiar with I-tunes and the restrictions on there, youd have to be a fool to not realise how much control apple have over their consumers
I would say that the average computer owner doesn’t upgrade their machine regardless of what they have, apart from maybe ram. I don’t know anybody that constantly upgrades their pc with the latest hardware. Frankly, I don’t know anybody who would want to buy something that has to constantly be upgraded to stay present. Why not just buy something better in the first place?
But you’re forgetting the fact you can customise a mac when you buy it. You can have it exactly as you want it, that’s not Apple thinking for you. I understand where you’re coming from, because you might change your mind 6 months down the line and admittedly them the Mac will be difficult to change components with, but as above, that’s not really a problem for most people.
To be fair, although the hardware is good, it’s the software where Apple really wins out. Everything comes with it, the photo software, the music software, the movie software, the dvd menu/burning software, the web design software. Sure, none of the included software is the best in the world at what it does, but it’s all very good IMO and the fact it all works seamlessly with each other is so much better than having a pc and having to convert files to use with different programs.
Plus you’d have to look far and wide to find somebody who’s used a pc for any length of time without having malware or viruses etc. cause problems. In 4 years I haven’t had a single virus issue on the mac.
I was trying to avoid getting into a mac vs pc debate, but ultimately it boils down to what each individual wants. I admit that there are some situations which call for a pc over a mac, but I’d say it’s about 5% of people worldwide.
the problem is that apple owners always think they are buying the best, when theyre not.
Im not claiming a pc is always the best in every situation, but people who buy apple products always give me the impression that theyre eyes are half closed.
they are uterly convinced they are buying the best product at that particular time.
the iphone is the perfect example. 3g, copy and paste, a camera more than 2 mega pixels were available well before the iphone was released, it got released with little in comparison to the competitors, yet every single person i know that has one is smitten by it.
Yeah, the iPhone is a different issue, they were behind the curve and most people realise that, but they still bring everything together well and even though certain features are available on other phones, I haven’t used anything else as well rounded. I haven’t used the new htc phones though, I hear they’re nice.
