The Great Knee Down Issue

For all you seasoned knee sliders out there, is there any truth in this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCg3BMGe52Mhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjXZC2B4y8g&mode=related&search=

basically yes.

MY method:
Find your roundie. Get your tyres warm!
Go up a gear from the one you would take it in as a standard ride through (this makes the bike less twitchy).

What is being said about getting your head out it correct.
I hang off like a monkey. If I look in the mirror, the only thing I can see is my chest.
I am always on the balls of my feet.
My arse is completely off the seat with the bottom of my outside thigh where my bum usually sits.

Something that is not said on those films (again this is MY way of doing it!!!) is if you are still having trouble going round in circle, is to square it off a bit. Head in wide and drop the bike into the inside as if you’re heading for the apex of a corner.

Remember speed is not an issue here. KDs are not about going fast. Going fast can involve KDs, but neither are compulsory to each other.

attached is a photo where I’m heading straight at the camera and if you look under my armpit (through the screen) you can see the Tesco shopping on the back (artistic licence, but you get the drift).

come out with me, I’ll help you get your knee down

give me your knee sliders, I’ll destroy them. Its much safer

Dunno mate, you are kinda right but it can work the other way as well, as in a lot of corner speed and not hanging off like a monkey. Pic below of me at Brands, totally incorrect body positioning but was grinding toe and knee sliders not a problem as you can see by the lean angle.

I have no argument there, but tracks are generally much easier to carry high corner speeds and the bends are more conducive to KDs. I was talking Roundabouts and twisties. Many folks get a bit nervous (and rightly so) hammering into a bend/roundabout at high speeds, ergo the statement that they are not necessarily synonymous.

As I’m a bit of a (picture) whore and to illustrate both sides of the ‘argument’
Hanging and not hanging off like a monkey (Hero blobs and knees down in both):

so ok…still have a mental blockage from a few off’s last year but im getting back to my way of riding again…

here ive got a good body position but my head needs to be slung over abit more and and extra 5-7mph would’nt go amiss…

smiled:D.

seems like it a bit to me, rotating round the tank rather than parallel to it, but wait till yer get to brands, 'av it daan no worries there mate…

Here’s one of me at Brands, more off my bike than on it!! :w00t: My lines weren’t right at this point which is why I didn’t touch down for this photo. As most of you know, I did manage later in the day with some help from one of the instructors

Well this is a vid clip of me when I first got the Gixxer and actually first got my kneedown… good ol Tibbets corner…

I was hanging off quite a lot when I learnt, the faster you go the less of a priority it becomes and you just tend to get it down. I found on one of my first trackdays at Brands I was banging my knee so hard into the tarmac on druids that it was standing the bike up and almost making me run wide !

Nice vid Tex.

Thanks for all the tips, I think it now comes down to bottle

00:34.luv that grunt mate…lololol:laugh:

smiled:D.

Sorry, can’t resist (I’m a whore!):
