NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! ![]()
This change will be for safety issues, and, getting people to get to Edwinas a lot slower than they do now. Edwinas has caused a hell of a lot of accidents since it was introduced and something had to be done. Its a real shame, that corner was superb, even better than redgate at donnington, another absolutely superb corner.
Because of the safety issues at the circuit there had been a lot of talk of BSB not going to Mallory again on some of the race forums. I believe that they are running BSB there this season but have ditched the Superstock class. The excuse given was about paddock room, not sure how true this excuse is really. After last years events at BSB perhaps they thought that it would be better to reduce the number of races hoping that they would get them all in this time.
Personal opinion…
Good. I think Mallory’s a dull track and that Gerrard’s is overrated anyway (although it was resurfaced, preferably by someone who understood that race tracks were supposed to be flat, it might be okay).
Now if they sort out Shaw’s and the Chicane it might be a reasonable track! ![]()
Edwina’s was only put in to slow the entry to the esses in the first place.
I guess in a few years time we’ll get another chicane to slow the entry speed into this one.
I wonder why they just couldn’t have extended the runoff area at the esses in the first place.
At this rate our lot (superM) will be racing there soon, go-kart tracks make good motard tracks!
last time i went to mallory on a track day there were 4 crashes, all at edwinas, all highsides on the way out, dont see how this new chicane would help that? people who get it too fast into edwinas can run straight on over the grass
personally i think this chicane does nothing for safety that better run off for the last 1/4 of gerrards wouldnt do except generate a new highside oppurtunity
and breathe out… ![]()
Worth pointing out that the mods are generaly made to protect national class racers, not track-dayers.
This even looks official!

I will try and remember to look it up on one of the race forums tonight, the forum is banned from work, but I have seen some photographs of the work being carried out. They have already extended the run off at the hairpin, not by a lot but I suppose every little counts. It looks to me as though they are going to make the circuit worse for the big HP boys. Reckon my SV should still be ok there, in fact, these changes may make it better. Perhaps they are subtly trying to spread the accident zone out? As most crashes appear to happen at Edwinas, this will perhaps stop them all happening there? Only time will tell.

It looks bonkers!
Yes, most of the offs have been at Edwinas, the chicane that was added to make the place safer - go figure!
Edwinas was added to slow the cars down (so I am informed), obviously noone thought of the bikes. Looks to me as if they are moving the accidents to that first new corner, you are still going to be piling in there at a ton twentyish I should imagine. A lot of the motorbike accidents at Edwinas are high sides, people learnt to brake for the chicane eventually, there were plenty of people running straight on when it was first put in. The problem of highsides will still remain at Edwinas, putting this in will not stop that.
