Gutted for you too – that 2 year rule is horrible – I thought I’d got caught a few years ago with 2 speed cameras in the same last month of my 2 years – I was lucky that neither resulted in anything.
Ref new licence, in Nigeria it was £10 for a licence that would arrive within the month, or £20 if you wanted one in 24 hours. No test required! Valid for 2 years and ideal for hiring cars with in UK when back home on leave.
All that aside, enjoy your travelling and no, I wouldn’t recommend Nigeria just for an easy new licence.
I lost my licence due to 6 points within 2 years (I was TEN DAYS AWAY from the two years!!!). Such is my entheusiasm for all things with wheels and engines I was back on the road within 3 weeks and 5 days.
Sorry to hear about people losing their license this way.
As for the question about what happens when you get a new license, No, the process doesn’t start again - instead you keep the points from the first license, so you only need another 6 for the normal ban you get at 12 points.
Feel for you man. I have still 3 months to go and touch forests of wood my licence is still spanking clean amazingly. I am now so paranoid that I never venture out of my local roads without the GPS loaded with all the cameras and police speed check and an audible alarm (I use http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras . They are super comprehensive…)
If you alread have a car (B) licence you can opt to re-sit that exam and that will re-enable all you licences including the motorcycle. If you don’t then maybe it could be better to just pass the car test from scratch as it will probably still cost you £500 with all the courses and you end up with an extra licence. However I am not sure whether this would work if you don’t already have the car licence, I’d say call the DVLA and find out.
they have changed the test now. plus its an extended re-test for revokee’s. would make sense to have a brush up.
anyway its money out of the travel fund so… bike has to go
