i’m looking at doing an oil change on my 600 gixxer srad and my SV 650 Ive done this many a time on cars and vans so i know the crack. What i’m wondering is which brand of oil is best for the job? the gixxer has about 21k on the clock and the SV less than 10k. also what brand of filter?
yeah i got 4ltr 15/50 mutol oil @ hein gericke 41 quid filter with magnet 8 quid for a do it yourself change …sorry should have made it more clear :doze:
you guys are all wrong … stick in putoline syentec 4 not the + 10w40 for the srad and syentec 4 again but 15w50 for the sv. putoline only make bike oils and wont go wrong. put it in mine for the last 2 years and great.
Best oil is the one that does the job properly for the least cost . . . I’ve tried many but prefer Mobil 1 4T 15-50 fully synth in my busa engine, it seems to stay in good shape for longer with the gear change staying smooth and clutch not grabbing for longer than some other oils. Redline didn’t last very long despite it being a PAO synthetic. Running Castrol right now, 10-40, as I had it left over (odd red colour) and it seems to be OK but no idea how long it’ll last.
I think most oils these days are so good that as long as you change it and the filter regularly and use the correct grade then you won’t go far wrong, just don’t use anything with the name Halfords or B&Q on it :w00t:
To be honest it doesn’t matter to much which brand you use just keep it at te right level and change it regularly. You should check what’s recomended for the engine though as fully sythetic can cause clutch slip on some bikes.
Hein Gerike do a filter and 4litres of oil offer, so I use what they stock
I don’t know about B&Q but I do know that Halfords 5/40W fully synthetic m/c oil is recycled. It turns out this means it’s tested to a higher standard than ‘original’ oil, and at 20 quid for 5 litres is also amongst the cheapest available. This is about the only thing I buy from Halfrauds…
