The ageing of technology

Who is fed up with the tease of technology?

Let me explain, You go and buy a dvd player, then you need a dvd player that plays dvix and so on, then blue ray comes out then you need a blueray dvd player. or another example nokia’s N95, then N95 8gb, then N96, then N97 and so on.

Talk about robbing tech heads. The N97 could’ve been made when the N95 came out! I know it makes money but what about the waste of money thats involved here.?

I think this is 70% of the credit crunch

but they dont want you to know about it.

or you get a PS3,

I do agree to a point. Sometimes something better could be released to start with. It’s corporate greed, think of the iPhone, why not release the 3G one straight away? it took a bunch of copy cat phones that did have it for apple to do the same

Have to admit to being a bit facinated by the pace of it all and the stuff thats actually available. Dont and cant afford to keep up tho so it doesnt really bother me.

This is a sign of a person ageing, not the technology

The release of technology to the consumer market is not dependant upon R&D, it’s dependant upon design and production cost. The reason they can make Product V2 the year after V1 is because the parts are cheaper to buy in volume by this time and they probably weren’t before. Scale of economics and all.

I don’t have a problem with the advancement of technology, but I do have a problem with our “gimme-gimme-gimme” consumerist/capitalist society. I think this has serious failings and has to change. How to do it? That’s a loaded question and a good subject for debate

You don’t NEED a DivX player (which has been out for about ten years), or a Blue-Ray player. You just want one because the marketing has worked. Nowt wrong with going to the cinema!

You cheeky bugger, respect your point tho. But its anoying, What a con it is. Anyway hows it going jay i used to see you at the cuba meet you took a blinding picture of me on my CBR600. You’ve done very well with this website well done.

A lot of the time it’s not that the technology goes out of date, it’s about desireability. The things you have still work fine but you are not happy about them because they are no longer desireable items because there is something better available.

how true

hence i ditched the first wife and got a more desireable one:D:D:D:Whistling:

One of the (few) things that’s good about being an old fart is that you don’t care too much about this sort of stuff. Your phone is 4 years old but still works. O.K. Your CD player is 6 years old but still works. O.K. One of your bikes is 30 years old but still good. O.K.

Your wife is … bugger.

Ah but do you still have Vinyl or cassette tape?

8 track!

think my GPX has one fitted…
