As im going to do my A2 test in august im wondering what 600cc bikes would be best and also wont cost me an arm and a leg for insurance. (bear in mind the bike would be restricted)
Ive been thinking some bikes:
sv650
suzuki bandit 600
I would be grateful for ideas and info
Sv650 is a more modern design than the bandit - it’s lighter and handles slightly better - but there’s not much in it - Bandit is a solid bike - can’t go wrong with either.
Its the insurance that im concerned about
Bandit would be my choice
SV650 group 9
SV650S group 10
GSF600 Bandit group 10
GSF600 S Bandit group 11
or at least that’s according to this…

Having rode all sorts of bikes from 125cc scooters through to a 1340cc bandit 1200 - the bike with the best balance of fun/economy/reliability that I’ve owned was a CB500!
It’s surprisingly rapid when you rev it (which it likes doing) - extremely cheap to run and easy to maintain.
Don’t overlook it due to it’s engine size!
The CBF that replaced it would be a safe bet too as it uses that same great engine but in a more modern style.

Oh and the insurance will be cheaper than all those - let alone the insurance, running costs and it will out last them all (bullet proof engines that go on forever - even if you cain the crap out of them)
Just my two pence worth!
go for a cb500, some of the younger lads i stunt with have these as their road bikes and they cant fault them, and they get ridden hard! as said above, dont be fooled by its engine size, its a very very capable bike:)
I’ve got tons of respect for the CB500 - a really great design - engine and chassis. A capable rider on a CB500 could put a lot of riders out there on flashier machinery to shame.
I like them so much I’d like to own one at some point.
I can thoroughly recommend the Bandit 600 (make sure you get the mk1 - more BHP!) lots of fun when you rag it !
I had the CBF 500 as my first bike after passing my test a few years back… Couldn’t fault it… Cheap to run/insure and loads of fun to ride…
I wouldn’t go for a bandit 600,to heavy and slow too,the sv is a much better bike but a v-twin which some like and some dont.
lder hornets are miles better than the bandit, and a CB500 is a great little hack, the only problem with these two bikes are brazilian couriers like them so be careful where you park in town.
